Payroll Specialist

Description

We are looking for a Payroll Specialist to join a manufacturing organization in Bridgewater, New Jersey on a contract basis with the potential for a permanent position. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented payroll specialist who can manage high-volume payroll operations with accuracy, maintain compliance across multiple states, and support employees with timely payroll processing. The role will play an important part in ensuring dependable payroll administration for a large workforce while working with established payroll systems and processes.

Responsibilities:

- Process end-to-end payroll for a large employee population, ensuring wages, deductions, and tax with holdings are calculated accurately and issued on schedule.

- Administer multi-state payroll activities in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

- Review payroll data for discrepancies, investigate variances, and resolve issues before final submission.

- Maintain employee payroll records, including updates related to earnings, deductions, direct deposit details, and tax information.

- Partner with HR, finance, and internal stakeholders to address payroll questions and support smooth payroll operations.

- Use payroll platforms such as Workday and other workforce management systems to complete payroll tasks and reporting.

- Prepare payroll reports, reconcile payroll totals, and support audit-ready documentation for internal review.

- Assist with payroll-related process updates and system-related activities as needed within the department.

Requirements

- Proven experience managing full cycle payroll from data review through final payroll processing.

- Hands-on knowledge of multi-state payroll practices and related compliance requirements.

- Prior experience using Workday in a payroll environment.

- Background processing payroll for employee populations exceeding 500 employees.

- Strong understanding of payroll procedures, deductions, taxes, and recordkeeping standards.

- High level of accuracy, organization, and attention to detail in a fast-paced setting.

- Ability to handle sensitive employee information with discretion and professionalism.
