Middle School English Teacher

Central Jersey College Prep Charter School (CJCP) is a tuition-free, public charter school in Somerset, New Jersey serving grades Kindergarten through 12th. CJCP first opened in 2006 with 77 students, and is now serving a diverse population of over 1,300 students and nearly 300 faculty and staff. CJCP is a recipient of many awards and designations such as: USDOE Blue Ribbon Award, 2016 NJDOE Tier-I Charter School,  US News Best High Schools, 2015 - 2024 National Charter School, 2020 College Board AP Honor Roll, 2023 - 2024 College Board AP Capstone School, 2020 - 2024 Great Schools College Success Award, % graduation rate, % acceptance rate into four-year colleges and universities since 2011.

The mission of CJCP is to provide academic and social opportunities for students to attain the skills necessary for success in post-secondary education. CJCP serves its mission by offering rigorous educational programs with an emphasis on college preparation, college and career counseling, and extracurricular enrichment activities.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Instructing students in reading, writing, speaking, and listening to enhance their literacy and communication skills.
  • Teaching Language Arts to various grade levels skills such as grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension, and composition.
  • Incorporating formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress, providing timely feedback and adjusting instruction as needed.
  • Supporting the academic and personal growth of students.
  • Regularly assessing student progress through assignments, tests, and observations, providing timely feedback to students and parents/guardians.
  • Establishing and maintaining a disciplined classroom environment that promotes respect, responsibility, and active learning.
  • Working closely with fellow teachers, support staff, and administrators to enhance instructional practices and contribute to school-wide initiatives.
  • Maintaining open communication with students, parents, and administrators regarding academic progress and classroom activities.
  • Engaging in ongoing professional growth opportunities to stay current with educational best practices and developments in Language Arts education.

Essential Duties:

  • Communicates responsibly with students, parents/guardians, colleagues, and school leadership.
  • Accounts for student attendance and punctuality.
  • Follows all county, state, and federal policies and procedures.
  • Follows professional ethics in all work-related activities.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Prepares adequately for responsibilities to be assumed when absent.
  • Facilitates home-school communication by such means as holding conferences, telephoning, and sending written communication.
  • Integrates appropriate technology into classroom instruction.
  • Avoids behaviors which detract from staff morale.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Proven communication and instructional strategies.
  • Classroom management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills both orally and in writing.
  • Excellent organizational skills.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Valid NJ CE, CEAS, or Standard Teacher Certification.
  • NJ Criminal History.
  • Work authorization in the U.S.
  • Tuberculosis Test.
  • Experience is a plus.
