English Special Education Teacher

Central Jersey College Prep Charter School (CJCP) is a tuition-free, public charter school in Somerset, New Jersey serving grades Kindergarten through 12th. CJCP first opened in 2006 with 77 students, and is now serving a diverse population of over 1,300 students and nearly 300 faculty and staff. CJCP is a recipient of many awards and designations such as: USDOE Blue Ribbon Award, 2016 NJDOE Tier-I Charter School, 2013 - 2018 US News Best High Schools, 2015 - 2024 National Charter School, 2020 College Board AP Honor Roll, 2023 - 2024 College Board AP Capstone School, 2020 - 2024 Great Schools College Success Award, % graduation rate, % acceptance rate into four-year colleges and universities since 2011.

The mission of CJCP is to provide academic and social opportunities for students to attain the skills necessary for success in post-secondary education. CJCP serves its mission by offering rigorous educational programs with an emphasis on college preparation, college and career counseling, and extracurricular enrichment activities.

Hiring for School Year

Responsibilities Include:
  • Develop and implement IEPs tailored to each student's strengths and needs.
  • Modify English curriculum materials and assessments to meet students' individualized goals.
  • Use a variety of instructional techniques and assistive technologies to accommodate diverse learning styles.
  • Assess student progress and adjust instruction accordingly; maintain accurate and timely records.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, case managers, counselors, and families to support student success.
  • Participate in IEP meetings, parent conferences, and professional development opportunities.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive classroom environment that encourages student engagement and growth.
  • Maintain compliance with all state and federal special education laws and regulations.
  • Exhibits knowledge of performance-based instruction and assessment.
  • Accounts for student attendance and punctuality.
  • Follows all county, state, and federal policies and procedures.
  • Follows professional ethics in all work-related activities.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Prepares adequately for responsibilities to be assumed when absent.
  • Works with parents/guardians in all aspects of the student's educational programs.
  • Facilitates home-school communication by such means as holding conferences, telephoning, and sending written communication.
  • Integrates appropriate technology into classroom instruction.
  • Avoids behaviors which detract from staff morale.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Proven communication and instructional strategies
  • Classroom management skills
  • Excellent communication skills both orally and in writing
  • Excellent organizational skills

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in related field
  • Valid NJ CE, CEAS, or Standard Teacher Certification with Special Education/and or English endorsement
  • NJ Criminal History
  • Work authorization in the U.S.
  • Tuberculosis Test
  • Experience is a plus.
