High School Teacher Of Technology Education / Steam

Technology education includes content aligned with the CCCS and the standards for Technology Literacy published by the International Technology Education Association. Examples of the topics that can be taught under this endorsement include: the nature of technology; technology and society; engineering and technological design; abilities for a technological world; energy and power; information and communication; and transportation, manufacturing and construction technologies.

Job duties include demonstrating the ability to model, deliver, and craft rich student-centered learning experiences around science, technology, engineering, arts, and math. Creating and implementing strategies for weaving steam experiences into multi-disciplinary curricula from grades 5 through
8. Working in partnership with teachers and staff, modeling consistent effective teaching with technology, engagement, lesson plan design, use of technology, steam and online tools. Demonstrating fundamental knowledge of the connection between technology, computer science, and other fields of study. Understanding and being able to design, develop, assess, and manage steam learning experiences. Teaching related software applications, safety and security policies pertaining to computer use, emerging hardware and operating systems.

Teaching skills, knowledge, and scientific attitudes through courses in technology education to students. Planning a technology education program involving demonstrations, lectures, discussions, and student experiments; organizing activities for optimal learning. Assessing students' skills to determine their needs and to develop teaching plans. Adapting lessons to meet the needs of students. Developing individualized education programs (IEPs) for each student. Planning, organizing, and assigning activities that are specific to each student's abilities.

Teaching and mentoring students as a class, in small groups, and one-on-one. Implementing IEPs, assessing students' performance, and tracking their progress. Updating IEPs throughout the school year to reflect students' progress and goals. Discussing student's progress with parents/guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators. Conferring with parents/guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators in order to resolve students' behavioral and academic problems. Preparing and helping students transition from grade to grade.

Establishing and enforcing rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom they are responsible. Planning and conducting activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate. Establishing clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicating those objectives to students. Preparing for assigned classes, and showing written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisors.

Assigning and grading class work and homework. Preparing, administering, and grading tests and assignments in order to evaluate students' progress. Maintaining accurate and complete student records as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations. Meeting with other professionals to discuss individual students' needs and progress. Collaborating with other teachers and administrators in the development, evaluation, and revision of elementary school programs.

Instructing and monitoring students in the use and care of equipment and materials, in order to prevent injuries and damage. Organizing and leading activities designed to promote physical, mental and social development. Attending professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops in order to maintain and improve professional competence. Planning and supervising class projects, field trips, visits by guest speakers or other experiential activities, and guiding students in learning from those activities.

Attending staff meetings, and serving on committees as required. Administering standardized ability and achievement tests, and interpreting results to determine student strengths and areas of need. Performing administrative duties such as assisting in hall duty, cafeteria monitoring, and bus loading and unloading. Sponsoring extracurricular activities such as clubs, student organizations, and academic contests. Supervising and mentoring teacher assistants who work with students.

Physical requirements include intermittent standing and sitting 6-7 hours daily, escorting students to and from various classroom settings, which requires climbing stairs, and accompanying students on playground and field trips, which may require elevated physical activity and/or riding a bus.
