CNC Lathe Machinist

The CNC Lathe Machinist operates in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, setting up and running CNC lathes to produce precision parts and tools from metals, plastics, and alloys. The machinist interprets blueprints, selects appropriate fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, and materials, and uses precision measuring instruments to verify that all products meet specifications. The role requires making adjustments to machines and programs as needed to maintain quality and efficiency while adhering to all safety regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Set up CNC lathes according to blueprint specifications, ensuring correct tooling, fixtures, and materials are selected and installed.
  • Fabricate precision items such as machine parts and tools from metals, plastics, and alloys.
  • Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto CNC machines.
  • Operate CNC lathes to produce parts that meet dimensional, tolerance, and surface finish requirements.
  • Interpret blueprints and technical drawings to determine machining processes, dimensions, and tolerances.
  • Conduct quality assurance checks using precision measuring tools to verify that parts meet all specifications.
  • Make machine adjustments to correct deviations, improve accuracy, and maintain consistent production quality.
  • Modify program speeds and feeds to optimize machining performance and part quality.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and machining issues and take corrective action to minimize downtime.
  • Meet established production schedules by planning work efficiently and maintaining steady output.
  • Follow all safety regulations and standard operating procedures to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas and care for tools and equipment to ensure reliable operation.

Essential Skills

  • Proficiency in setting up and operating CNC lathes in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings accurately.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and experience with machine operating and troubleshooting.
  • Technical ability combined with solid basic math skills for measurements and calculations.
  • Hands-on experience working with various metal and plastic materials in machining processes.
  • Familiarity with precision measuring tools such as micrometers and other inspection instruments.
  • Ability to adjust machine settings and modify program speeds and feeds to meet specifications.
  • Commitment to following safety regulations and quality standards in all machining activities.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED certificate.
  • Completion of an apprenticeship or formal machining training program.
  • Journeyman-level experience as a machinist is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) is a plus.
  • Experience with lathe machines, milling machines, and general mill/lathe operations.
  • Experience in CNC programming and the ability to make basic program edits.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for mechanical and process-related issues in machining.
  • Ability to conduct thorough quality assurance checks and document results as needed.

This is a permanent position based out of Somerset, NJ.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $90,000.00 - $/yr. Medical benefits eligibility after 90 days of employment. Dental benefits eligibility after 90 days of employment. PTO (Paid Time Off) beginning with 2 weeks annually. New hire orientation and benefits enrollment information provided during onboarding.
