Reports To: Adult Education Director

NOTE: This is a grant funded position.

Definition: Under close supervision, assists teachers with the delivery of the education curriculum and provides assistance to adult students for Somerton School District No. 11.

• Assist instructors with students in classroom settings; work with students in one-on-one or small group settings to facilitate learning.
• Modify lessons to accommodate student needs such as English–Spanish translation and individualized instruction.
• Prepare class materials for upcoming projects and activities; aid instructors in thematic units.
• Utilize District behavior modification program as needed.
• Modify or assist in modifying lesson plans to individual student needs; conduct tests, prepare documentation on student progress, and organize materials/activities to meet specific needs.
• Consult and collaborate with classroom instructor on progress of students.
• Assist with classroom duties: making copies, filing paperwork, monitoring and supervising students, preparing instructional materials, creating visual aids, and photocopying.
• Prepare workstations or learning centers for students to work on daily lessons.

• Knowledge of learning methods and techniques related to second language learners.
• Knowledge of special education or special needs accommodations.
• Knowledge of district policies and procedures affecting assigned work.
• Knowledge of district behavior modification program.
• Skill in monitoring and assisting students.
• Skill in working with special education and special needs students.
• Skill in effective oral and written communication.
• Skill in following oral and written instructions.
• Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

Work is performed in indoor and outdoor environments. Requires frequent standing, walking, and sitting. Some positions may require bending and lifting up to 25 pounds. May be exposed to infectious diseases.

• High School Diploma or GED.
• 60 credit hours from an accredited college, Associate’s Degree, or passage of Paraprofessional Exam.
• One year of classroom assistance experience.
• Fluency in both English and Spanish.
• Valid Arizona Driver’s License.
• Fingerprint Clearance Card (IVP) required at the time of hiring.

• At least 1 year(s) of relevant experience preferred.
• Associate degree preferred.
• Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
