Executive Officer

Somerton Town Council is seeking an Executive Officer (Town Clerk & Responsible Financial Officer) who wants to make a meaningful difference in a town with character and a strong sense of community. This is a leadership role for someone who enjoys shaping how an organisation works, improving what it delivers and helping elected members make confident, well informed decisions.

Somerton is a historic market town with a proud identity and a council ready to build on its existing priorities while taking a fresh look at what comes next. We’re looking for a Clerk who can help reset direction with clarity and purpose – somehow who brings structure, momentum and calm authority to a busy, visible organisation.

You’ll play a central role in strengthening how the Council operates: revisiting the Town Plan to confirm our long-term direction, preparing for potential future devolution opportunities, and helping us plan responsibly for long term needs such as cemetery capacity. You’ll guide councillors with clear, balanced advice, support strong governance, and ensure our budget is managed with clarity and long term sustainability.
