Purpose Statement

The job of Social Worker is done for the purpose/s of supporting students' academic, social-emotional, behavioral, and mental health development; addressing barriers to learning by collaborating with students, families, school staA, and community agencies; participating in special education evaluation and planning processes; providing assessment, counseling, crisis intervention, case management, and consultation services; coordinating school and community resources; promoting positive behavioral interventions and student well-being;

advocating for students and families; documenting and reporting required information; and serving as a liaison between the home, school, and community to improve student success.

Essential Functions

  • Addresses environmental, attendance, and behavioral factors that impact educational adjustment and academic success for the purpose of identifying barriers, developing appropriate interventions and support plans, and promoting student well‑being, engagement, and academic achievement.

  • Assesses students experiencing mental health concerns and collaborates with appropriate school and community professionals for the purpose of identifying needs, coordinating appropriate interventions, and supporting student well‑being and academic success.

  • Assists in the development and implementation of behavioral interventions, coordinated support strategies, and educational programs for students requiring additional behavioral supports or receiving special education and related services for the purpose of addressing individual student needs, promoting positive behavior, and supporting a safe, inclusive, and productive learning environment.

  • Assists students in developing self‑awareness, self‑acceptance, conflict resolution skills, healthy coping strategies, appropriate social interaction skills, and positive peer relationships for the purpose of strengthening social‑emotional competencies, improving self‑regulation, promoting positive behavior, and supporting healthy relationships and student success.

  • Collaborates with administrators, teachers, counselors, psychologists, nurses, and community agencies for the purpose of coordinating comprehensive student support services.

  • Connects students and families with school, community, and agency resources, including services for students with disabilities and other special needs for the purpose of coordinating support services, reducing barriers to learning, and promoting student well‑being, educational success, and family engagement.

  • Develops and delivers professional development, in‑service training, and consultation for school staA related to student mental health, social‑emotional learning, behavioral interventions, and cultural, societal, economic, familial, and health factors aAecting student performance and behavior for the purpose of increasing awareness, supporting informed decision‑making, and implementing eAective strategies to promote student success.

  • Develops intervention strategies for the purpose of improving academic achievement, attendance, and student engagement.

  • Identifies and reports suspected child abuse and neglect in accordance with state law, district policy, and mandatory reporting requirements for the purpose of ensuring student safety, protecting student well‑being, and complying with legal and ethical obligations.
