Job DescriptionPurpose Statement: The position of Head Coach is performed to implement the athletic program for assigned sport(s) in accordance with applicable rules and regulations, supervise coaching personnel and student athletes, provide sound instructional techniques, serve as a positive role model, and act as a liaison for the school within and outside the district, to the community, and to various organizations.
Essential Functions- Assess student athletes to provide performance feedback and determine team placement.
- Develop team and individual practice regimes (strength, speed, agility, nutrition, injury prevention) to enhance performance.
- Develop game strategies and plans based on opponent analysis and athlete abilities.
- Guide other coaching personnel in instructional techniques, practice organization, supervision guidelines, and responsibilities.
- Identify program needs and recommend expenditures for activities, equipment, and supplies.
- Implement practice schedules and coordinate facilities, equipment, and staff assignments.
- Instruct student athletes to promote growth in athletic skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
- Follow district and site procedures and policies, including the AIA.
- Oversee assistant coaches, student managers, volunteers, and other staff.
- Respond to inquiries from students, parents, school personnel, media, and college representatives.
- Inform the school athletic director of issues impacting the program.
- Provide appropriate supervision for all athletes and students.
- Maintain high standards of personal conduct and act as a role model.
- Ensure all coaches are cleared through YUHSD Human Resources.
- Perform any other related duties as assigned by the Athletic Director, Principal, or other administrators.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Adapt to changing priorities; administer first aid; apply relevant laws, codes, and policies; coordinate activities; organize and communicate information. Knowledge of community organizations, equipment, injury prevention, eligibility, attendance, discipline, and safety protocols. Ability to communicate with diverse backgrounds; exhibit leadership; maintain confidentiality; meet deadlines; model sportsmanship; motivate athletes; enforce discipline; provide team building; travel to off‑campus events;
work extended hours including evenings and weekends.
