Manager – Accounting & Business Advisory | Boston / Andover / Providence | Hybrid
If you enjoy public accounting but don't want your career to be defined by one narrow service line, this is worth a look.
I'm working with a growing CPA firm that's looking for a Manager to join its Business Advisory team across Boston, Andover or Providence
.
It's a genuinely varied position combining accounting, tax, client advisory and team leadership
. You'll work closely with privately held businesses and their owners, becoming a day-to-day advisor rather than only appearing at year-end.
What you'll actually be doing
You'll take ownership of a portfolio of clients and have responsibility for engagements from planning through delivery, including:
- Leading compilation and review engagements across a variety of industries.
- Working directly with business owners and becoming a key point of contact.
- Supporting business and individual tax planning
, projections and compliance. - Preparing and reviewing tax returns and advisory deliverables.
- Managing engagement budgets, deadlines, billing and workflow.
- Reviewing work and delegating across Seniors and Associates.
- Coaching and developing junior members of the team.
- Working directly with Partners and Senior Managers on more complex client matters.
- Getting involved in special projects and broader advisory work throughout the year.
Who are they looking for?
You’ll probably already be at Manager level
, or be an experienced Senior/Supervisor who's ready for more responsibility.
The main requirements are:
- 5–7+ years of public accounting or closely related experience.
- CPA or equivalent professional qualification.
- Experience with compilations and reviews
. - Business and individual tax experience.
- Previous responsibility for managing engagements and client relationships.
- Experience supervising, reviewing and developing staff.
- Comfortable managing several clients and deadlines simultaneously.
- Experience with CCH Axcess Tax & Engagement, Quick Books and Excel is particularly useful.
Why it's interesting
The biggest attraction is the breadth
.
Rather than choosing between being a pure tax professional or staying entirely within accounting and assurance, you’ll get exposure across both while developing much stronger advisory relationships with clients.
For someone who likes working directly with business owners
, wants more autonomy over their engagements, and enjoys being involved in the bigger picture of a client's business, it’s a strong next step.
