This is an exciting opportunity to join Candlewick Press, Holiday House and Peachtree, some of the world's leading publishers of books and content for young readers, renowned for truly original publishing and outstanding quality. Reporting to the Senior Director of Group Graphic Production, the Graphic Production Specialist will provide support to all US publishers within Walker Books Group (Candlewick Press, Holiday House, Peachtree Press) by handling the Preflight and PDF Creation of final files for print, color-correction, image retouching, reprints, and archiving while following Walker Books Group aesthetic styles and standards.
This is a full-time position based in Somerville, MA with the option for hybrid work. The salary for this role is $52, and is commensurate with experience. Duties also include but are not limited to:- Retrieving and preparing archive assets for various reuse needs
- Creating special effect plates for print (i.e. Spot-Gloss, Emboss, Foil-Stamp, etc.)
- Generating and updating barcodes
- Fulfilling file and PDF requests
- Assisting with creating and updating training and workflow documentation
This is not a design position. The ideal candidate will have an appreciation for typography and book design, while having a stronger interest in prepress and digital production.
Experience:- A minimum of 2 years work experience in print production, design production, or prepress fields.
- Understanding of color separations, 4-color printing process and color theory, along with experience in color-correction.
- Experience working with Hi-Rez imagery, including cloning, creating layer masks, alpha channels, retouching, color conversion, adjustment layers, and smart filters.
- Typesetting experience and understanding of proofreading marks a plus.
- Expert knowledge of InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat Pro.
- Knowledge of Color Management, InDesign and Acrobat Preflight functionality, and scripting.
- Candidate must be very detail oriented and work well under pressure.
- Good communication, time management, and organizational skills a must.
