Position SummaryA building substitute teacher is a consistent, school-based professional who reports to the same building daily to cover for absent teachers, maintain classroom management, and ensure student safety. Key duties include implementing lesson plans, fostering a positive learning environment, supporting various grade levels, and performing additional duties like covering lunch, prep periods, or supporting staff.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities- Reports daily to an assigned school to fill in for short-term or long-term teacher absences.
- Implements lesson plans left by the regular teacher and ensures academic continuity.
- Maintains a safe, orderly, and positive classroom environment, following school policies and procedures.
- Adapts to different classrooms, subjects, and grade levels, providing support wherever needed in the building.
- Ensures student safety during classroom hours, including supervision during transitions or breaks.
- Communicates with school administration, provides feedback to regular teachers, and participates in the school community.
- Education:
Generally requires a high school diploma or equivalent (GED), though some positions may require a Bachelor's degree or teaching certification. - Experience:
Prior experience working with school-aged children is typically required. - Skills:
Excellent communication, classroom management, and organizational skills.
