Job Description

Job Objective

The Summer Programs District Coordinator will ensure seamless coordination of all district summer programs in Somerville. They will collaborate closely with Academic and City/School Administrative departments to deliver a safe and enriching series of programs that align with the mission of the Somerville summer initiative.

Qualifications

  • Immediate Availability:
    Candidates must be able to start immediately.
  • Familiarity of the District:
    Current SPS employee with a minimum of five years of school experience preferred.
  • Leadership

    Experience:

    Previous roles as a program administrator or in building leadership positions.
  • Preferred Experience:

    Leadership experience in summer programs is desirable.
  • Program Development

    Skills:

    Experience in program development, curriculum design, and monitoring student progress.
  • Safety and Well-being:
    Ability to maintain a safe and healthy environment for students, addressing social and emotional needs of both students and staff.
  • Cultural Competence:
    Knowledge and appreciation of cultural differences, with a commitment to removing barriers to equity, access, and inclusion.
  • Teaching

    Experience:

    Evidence of at least five years of successful teaching experience is required.
  • Planning Time:
    Coordination and planning time that do not conflict with current district position, most planning and meeting is done from January to June
  • Flexible

    Hours:

    Daily hours to be determined in coordination with Supervisor and program schedule.
  • On‑Site Availability:
    Must be available for on‑site support throughout the summer programming
  • Technology:
    Ability to support digital registration for summer programming, collect data and report out, share and update spreadsheets, and knowledge of Google and Microsoft tools

Responsibilities

  • Program Planning:
    Lead summer program planning, including offerings, space usage, outreach, and administrative reporting practices.
  • Meetings:
    Lead meetings beginning in January, bi‑weekly or as needed.
  • Coordination:
    Communicate with different departments within school and city regarding programming and logistics.
  • Marketing and Parent Communication:
    Collect program information and share with school and city departments, help with coordination of summer program fair in March.
  • Communication Development:
    Assist in the creation of a comprehensive communication plan for Somerville families.
  • Attendance Reporting:
    Develop and manage a unified attendance reporting system for all summer programs.
  • Safety Protocols:
    Implement standard safety protocols in consultation with District Student Support administrators and the Assistant Director of OST and Partnerships.
  • Funding Consultation:
    Work with the District CFO to establish appropriate funding structures, including necessary fees.
  • Hiring Protocols:
    Collaborate with school HR Administrators to implement cohesive hiring protocols alongside the Assistant Director of OST and Partnerships.
  • Quality Monitoring:
    Regularly visit program sites to ensure quality.
  • Liaison Role:
    Serve as a liaison between district administrators and program directors concerning building security, emergency procedures, field‑trip protocols, and resource needs.
  • Progress Monitoring:
    Aid program directors and the Assistant Director of OST Programs and Partnerships in establishing systems to monitor student progress, including pre and post‑test evaluations.
  • Supervision:
    Supervise Program Directors to maintain accurate student records accessible to all staff.
  • Staffing Support:
    Provide guidance on staffing and hiring matters.
  • Technology

    Collaboration:

    Work with online learning leaders and District instructional technology staff to enhance coursework and incorporate engaging technology.
  • Program Evaluation:
    Lead the development of an annual comprehensive program evaluation in consultation with district administrators.
Reports To

Central Office Administration or designees and OST Director and Assistant Director.
