Job Description

Position Summary: Springboard Collaborative invites current employees of Somerville Public Schools to apply for a part‑time tutor role. Tutors lead a 10‑week Family‑Educator Learning Accelerator with students and families, report to the school’s Program Leader, and help students accelerate literacy progress.

Springboard’s mission is to close the literacy gap by coaching educators and families to help children learn to read by the 4th grade.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities
  • Attend all required pre‑programming teacher PD and weekly staff Professional Learning Community (PLC) meetings.
  • Support administration, scoring, and data entry of beginning and ending assessments to students.
  • Support Family Orientation and Team‑Building Huddles (pre‑program 1:1 family meeting).
  • Prepare for and lead student instruction using Springboard’s Reading Readiness & Phonics Curriculum.
  • Prepare for and facilitate family workshops.
  • Input program data into the Connect database.
  • Facilitate the end‑of‑program celebration.
  • Communicate weekly with families.
Time Commitment

Pre‑Programming (February 10 – March
6):
Up to 6 hours (virtual PD February 23‑27 and program preparation March 2‑7).

Family Orientation / Team‑Building Huddles (March 9‑13): Up to 4 hours.

Weekly Student Instruction (March 9 – May 8, 3 hours/week × 8 weeks): 24 hours.

Family Workshops (4 sessions): 4 hours.

Weekly Instruction/Workshop Prep (60 min/week × 8 weeks): 8 hours.

Family Outreach & Make‑Up Workshops: 5 hours.

Weekly PLC Meetings (30 min/week × 8 weeks): 4 hours.

Learning Celebration (prep & celebrate): 1 hour.

Maximum

Hours:

58 hours.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Abilities & Skills
  • Applicants must be current employees of Somerville Public Schools.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to perform duties while standing, sitting, and walking for extended periods.
  • Ability to work with students at various physical levels, including bending, kneeling, crouching, and reaching.
  • Ability to lift and/or move materials and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to use hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate standard classroom tools and technology.
  • Ability to see, hear, and communicate effectively with students, staff, and families, both verbally and in writing.
