Position: 26-27 Special Education School Psychologist` (2026-2027 school year)

Postition Summary

The School Psychologist provides comprehensive psychological and academic evaluation services to support student learning, development, and well‑being. This role includes conducting assessments, interpreting data, and collaborating with educators, families, and service providers to develop appropriate interventions and supports.

The School Psychologist is an integral member of the special education team, contributing to eligibility determinations and the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). The role supports students’ cognitive, academic, social‑emotional, and behavioral needs and promotes equitable access to educational opportunities.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive psychological and academic evaluations using age‑appropriate, evidence‑based assessment tools.
  • Select, administer, and interpret formal and informal assessments to determine student needs and eligibility for services.
  • Consult with teachers, families, and other professionals to gather relevant background information and support the referral process.
  • Conduct observations in educational settings, including off‑site locations such as early intervention programs, preschools, and community‑based placements.
  • Prepare clear, comprehensive evaluation reports that address referral concerns and include actionable recommendations.
  • Participate as an active member of special education team meetings, using assessment data to inform decisions regarding eligibility, interventions, and placement.
  • Contribute to the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for eligible students.
  • Provide consultation and support to educators working with students with disabilities or suspected disabilities.
  • Deliver professional development, workshops, and resources for staff and families related to mental health, learning differences, and student support strategies.
  • Provide follow‑up services, including re‑evaluations and progress monitoring, as required.
  • Maintain accurate records, including logs of evaluations and meetings, and ensure compliance with all state and federal timelines and regulations.
  • Maintain and manage appropriate testing materials and assessment tools.
  • Serve as a liaison to community programs, including preschools and parent groups, as needed.
  • Perform other duties consistent with the scope and responsibility of the position as assigned.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Abilities, & Skills
  • Appropriate Department of Elementary and Secondary Educator's license in the field or subject for this position
  • DESE SEI endorsement Required
Preferred
  • Experience working with multilingual learners

Physical Requirements
  • Mobility:
    Frequent walking, standing, and navigating stairs.
  • Lifting/Strength:
    Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry objects ranging from 10 to 30 lbs (e.g., books, supplies, equipment).
  • Physical Dexterity:
    Bending, crouching, kneeling, stooping, and reaching to assist students.
  • Stationary Tasks:
    Remaining in a stationary position (sitting/standing) for long periods.
