Position: Web Design Intern on Wix (Unpaid Intern)

No Barriers Education Inc. is dedicated to eliminating barriers that prevent underserved students from accessing higher education and career opportunities. The organization supports students from low-income backgrounds, first-generation college students, students who did not complete high school, student parents, immigrants, and other nontraditional learners by connecting them with clear information, mentorship, and accessible resources.

Through digital tools, educational guidance, and community partnerships, No Barriers Education works to make pathways to education, such as GED programs, college, job training, and certifications, easier to understand and more accessible for all students

Role Description

This is a full-time, remote volunteer consulting role running August 3rd through August 28, with an expected commitment of 40 hours per week.

The consultant will support the redesign and organization of the No Barriers Education website using Wix. The primary focus of this role is to improve the user experience and layout of informational pages that help students understand educational pathways such as GED programs, college access, workforce training, and career development opportunities.

The consultant will help structure content in a clear, student-friendly way, redesign existing pages, and organize educational resources so they are easy to navigate and understand, especially for students who may be unfamiliar with higher education systems.

Day-to-day responsibilities may include redesigning website pages in Wix, improving layout and readability, organizing information by student need or educational pathway, collaborating with the founder on content strategy and site structure, and helping ensure the website is accessible, intuitive, and welcoming to underserved students.

Qualifications

  • Interest in UI/UX design, web design, or digital accessibility
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to organize information clearly
  • Passion for education, social impact, and supporting underserved communities
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to collaborate
  • Experience with content design, UX, or accessibility principles is a plus
  • Familiarity with education systems, GED programs, or college access is a bonus but not required
