Position Overview

Join a team where community comes first. Swampscott High School is looking for a dedicated Physics(e.g.) Teacher to help us uphold our commitment to academic excellence, create meaningful opportunities for students, and strengthen our collaborative school community. This role is designed for an educator with a strong background in supporting students with learning disabilities, specifically those requiring specialized instruction in Mathematics
. In this role, you will design and implement high-quality, standards-aligned instruction within a co-taught and academic support environment.

Essential Functions
  • Specialized Math Instruction: Provide direct, structured, sequential, and systematic mathematics instruction within a co-taught setting, ensuring students with learning disabilities have equitable access to the curriculum.
  • General Education

    Collaboration:

    Work in close partnership with general education teachers to co-plan lessons, modify curriculum materials, and ensure the seamless delivery of accommodations and modifications in the inclusion classroom.
  • Academic & Holistic Support: Lead structured academic support blocks focused on reinforcing core content, developing executive functioning skills
    , and fostering social-emotional learning.
  • IEP Management & Compliance: Conduct comprehensive evaluations, draft Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), and provide detailed progress reports in accordance with state and federal timelines.
  • Professional Reliability: Maintain consistent attendance and punctuality to ensure instructional continuity and the effective supervision and safety of all students.
  • Communication: Maintain proactive, transparent, and frequent communication with students and families to support student growth and advocate for their individual needs.
Required Qualifications
  • Licensure: Valid Massachusetts Educator License in Moderate Disabilities (5–12).
  • Education:
    Master’s Degree in Special Education or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of successful teaching experience in a special education setting.
  • SEI Endorsement: Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Teacher Endorsement required.
  • Compliance: Successful completion of a Massachusetts CORI and fingerprint-based national criminal background check.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Dual Certification: Secondary certification in Mathematics strongly preferred.
  • Pedagogical Knowledge: Demonstrated expertise in utilizing structured, multisensory, and systematic instructional methods for mathematics.
  • Executive Functioning: Experience implementing specific strategies to support organization, time management, and task initiation at the high school level.
Physical Requirements:

This position may require long periods of standing, walking, and sitting; talking or hearing in person and by telephone; using hands to finger, handle, or feel objects or controls; reaching with hands and arms. Regularly required to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, and lift up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.
