Job Description & How to Apply Below
Power Electronics & Hardware Design Engineer
Mesodyne is seeking an outstanding Power Electronics & Hardware Design Engineer to own the electrical power stage of the Light Cell generator. You will be required to design custom power stages from scratch. You will architect, simulate, layout, and test custom high-efficiency power converters (buck, boost, buck-boost DC-DC topologies) capable of operating flawlessly in power-dense, thermal-heavy, and ruggedized environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Roll Your Own Converters: Design, simulate, layout, and validate custom, high-density, and high-efficiency power converters.
- Optimized Magnetics & Switching: Select optimal switching frequencies, design gate drivers, optimize switching loops, and select magnetics/inductors to squeeze maximum efficiency out of compact form factors.
- Battery Management & Hybridization: Develop custom battery charging, balancing, and protection circuits.
- Custom PCB Layout: Own multi-layer board layouts with a rigorous focus on EMI/EMC mitigation, signal integrity, and high-frequency noise suppression.
- Hands-on Lab Characterization: Utilize oscilloscopes, electronic loads, spectrum analyzers, and thermal cameras to characterize electrical noise, optimize converter efficiency, and debug hardware prototypes.
Qualifications & Skills
- Education: B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering with a deep focus on power electronics.
- Experience: 3-5+ years of hands-on experience designing, laying out, and debugging custom power converters from scratch.
- Topologies: Deep familiarity with buck, boost, SEPIC, flyback, or resonant converter topologies.
- First-Principles Understanding: Strong analytical capabilities regarding feedback loop compensation (Bode plots, pole/zero placement) and electromagnetic physics.
- Lab
Competency:
Passionate about diving deep into physical testing and board-level troubleshooting in the electronics lab.
