Senior Thermal Engineer
3D Architech is pioneering next-generation metal manufacturing infrastructures that push the boundaries of design at the unprecedented scale – 10 micron or lower. Our proprietary gel-enabled metal manufacturing platform enables geometries, thermal performance, and materials combinations that are not achievable with conventional additive or subtractive processes.
Our operation across the USA, Japan, and Taiwan, bridging advanced materials R&D with scalable manufacturing for thermal management applications. As we expand our R&D operations in the US, we're seeking talented engineers to drive our manufacturing technology and the development of application-specific products for cooling devices.
In this role, you will lead the development of advanced cooling devices using our proprietary gel-enabled metal manufacturing technology. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to address complex technical challenges and scale up our innovative solutions from R&D to manufacturing.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the design and evaluation of advanced cooling devices that exploit three-dimensionally engineered metal architectures with fine geometric control at 10 micron scale
- Identifying technical challenges from a first-principles approach and developing hypothesis-driven solutions that integrate thermal modeling, calculations, and experimental validation
- Collaborating with external partners and establishing strategic alliances to align technical requirements, translate application needs into product designs, and support data-driven technical proposals and reviews
- Establishing thermal evaluation frameworks, including experimental setups and correlated simulation models to ensure consistency between design intent, testing, and results
- Driving cross-functional technical discussions and mentoring, working with other thermal engineers and materials engineers to strengthen evaluation methodologies, design guidelines, and internal technical standards
- Staying abreast of emerging trends in advanced materials, manufacturing, thermal engineering, and data centers
Required qualifications include:
- Proven experience leading R&D teams in thermal engineering, fluid mechanics, product development, or closely related fields.
- Demonstrated ability to drive technology development in environments with high uncertainty and ambitious timelines
- Strong problem-solving skills with a first-principles approach
- Hands-on strength in at least one of the following areas is required: (1) thermal evaluation and measurement systems including experimental setup and data interpretation, (2) modeling and numerical simulation for thermal and fluid systems with experience in data processing model verification and validation, or (3) product development of cooling or thermal management hardware
- Master's or Ph.D. in Thermal Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline
- Proficiency in standard PC tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for technical analysis, documentation, and communication
Preferred qualifications include:
- Experience designing and evaluating high heat-flux cooling technologies, including cold plates, liquid cooling systems, and two-phase cooling approaches
- Strong experience driving final design decisions efficiently using quantitative engineering approaches such as Design of Experiment (DoE) and optimization methods, with the ability to balance thermal performance and pressure drop
- Hands-on experience with CFD tools such as Solid Works Flow Simulation, ANSYS (Fluent, Icepak, CFX), COMSOL, OpenFOAM, or an equivalent technical skillset
- Experience handling complex geometries, including lattice or porous structures, with skills in parametric or mathematical geometry definition using tools such as Solid Works, nTop (nTopology), or similar software
- Experience managing and leveraging large volumes of simulation results to accelerate subsequent design iterations and enable data-driven thermal or cooling design decisions
- Experience in customer-facing technical roles
Work schedule and compensation include:
- Working hours:
Standard business hours with flexibility available. - Occasional domestic and international travel
Benefits include:
- Medical and dental insurance coverage
- Paid leave, maternity/paternity leave, and caregiving leave
