Position SummaryJoin a growing Massachusetts structural team where your bridge expertise will help shape the future of a practice serving MassDOT Highway and municipalities on a wide variety of bridge projects across the Commonwealth. We're looking for a Senior Bridge Engineer who wants more than production work---someone ready to lead technical delivery, mentor emerging staff, and help grow a high-performing bridge group.
From rehabilitation and load rating to new bridge design, inspection support, and client collaboration, you'll have the opportunity to make a visible impact on projects of real importance to Massachusetts communities. - Lead the planning, analysis, and design of a wide range of bridge projects for MassDOT Highway and other transportation clients across Massachusetts.
- Perform and oversee structural calculations, design computations, load ratings, and rehabilitation/replacement evaluations for bridges and related structures.
- Prepare and review contract plans, specifications, estimates, technical reports, and design documentation to support project delivery from concept through construction.
- Coordinate closely with roadway, traffic, geotechnical, drainage, and construction teams to ensure bridge solutions are fully integrated and buildable.
- Provide technical leadership and QA/QC for bridge design tasks, ensuring compliance with MassDOT standards, AASHTO LRFD, and applicable federal/state requirements.
- Support project scoping, fee development, and proposal efforts, helping grow the structural/bridge practice and expand client relationships.
- Execute work in accordance with internal quality procedures, applicable codes, legislation, and industry standards to ensure project compliance and technical excellence.
- Actively pursue continuous learning opportunities to maintain a high degree of technical knowledge and professional competency in bridge/structural engineering.
- Promote and maintain a culture of safety by working in a safe manner at all times and promptly reporting all health and safety incidents or concerns.
- Perform additional tasks as required to support project goals, team objectives, and company initiatives.
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering with structural emphasis (MSCE preferred), with a minimum of 8 or more years of experience
- Professional Structural Engineer License (MA)
- Experience with AutoCAD/Civil 3D AASHTO LRFD and bridge design software
- Experience with MassDOT Highway Division Bridge Manual and standards
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work in a team environment with staff from different disciplines and backgrounds
- Active and clear driver's license, including a successful clearance of a Motor Vehicle history check.
- Ability to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) for extended periods while performing computer-based tasks, attending meetings, or preparing design documentation.
- Frequent use of hands and fingers to operate computers, printers, and other office equipment.
- Visual acuity to review detailed drawings, specifications, and computer screens for extended periods.
- Ability to clearly communicate through speech, hearing, and written correspondence in person, virtually, and via telephone.
- Ability to travel to and from project sites, client meetings, and other offices as required.
