Job Summary
General Summary/ Overview:
The Mass General Brigham Community Health Intern Program offers young adults age 18 and older an opportunity to gain valuable experience working to improve community health outcomes. Interns will engage directly with patients and community members, supporting access to care, health education, innovation, evaluation, or outreach efforts aimed at improving health outcomes consistent with the Mass General Brigham Community Health Needs Assessment.
Internships are typically full-time for 8-10 weeks between May - August.
This program is meant for individuals interested in a career in healthcare, community or public health, or population health management, providing meaningful, hands-on experience in real-world settings.
Interns will be assigned to a community health team and will contribute to a project that can include interacting with patients and community residents at health centers, outreach sites, or community events. Interns may assist with patient care and engagement, educational initiatives, and operational support while learning from experienced healthcare professionals.
Representative examples of projects for Summer 2026 include:
1. MGB Community Care Van - Opportunities to collocate with Community Care Vans to support community health improvement, engagement and outreach.
2. Cancer Navigation Program - Supporting the collation and analysis of data from year one of the colorectal cancer navigation program and assist in developing a concise summary report highlighting key outcomes and learnings.
3. Food is Medicine Initiatives - Partnering with the Mobile Market and supporting the Teaching Kitchen, including coordination and assistance with the Healthy Heart Culinary class.
4. Kraft Prize for Excellence and Innovation in Community Health
- The intern will help engage internal and external stakeholders, inventory community health innovations nationally, and support outreach and communications efforts to raise awareness of the Kraft Prize and Community Health Innovation work.
5. Community Health Communications - Managing or supporting social media platforms to promote Community Health initiatives, highlight available services, and elevate the impact of community-based work.
Qualifications
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
* Assist with general administrative tasks such as scheduling, data entry, and organizing materials
* Support health improvement efforts and outreach, including community engagement and event participation
* Help coordinate or support logistics for programs, meetings, or health-related events
* Assist with health education efforts, including preparation of materials and basic public-facing communication
* Provide courteous and respectful support to patients, staff, and community members
* Participate in professional development and career readiness workshops
Qualifications:
* At least 18 years old by September 1, 2025
* Interest in community health, public health, population health or healthcare careers
* Strong interpersonal skills and comfort engaging with diverse populations
* Dependable, professional, and able to follow directions
* Ability to commit to full program duration and orientation sessions
