The Enterprise Digital System Clinical Lead
- Ambulatory Pathology provides clinical informatics leadership for Epic systems supporting laboratory (Beaker - AP/CP) and non-laboratory clinical workflows related to pathology across ambulatory settings. This role is responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, and standardized workflows across the full lifecycle of pathology services, including ordering, specimen collection, processing, result management, and downstream clinical workflows, spanning Epic Beaker and integrated Epic modules.

The role includes ownership of highly variable and cross-setting workflows, including ambulatory and specialty diagnostic pathways, requiring coordination across clinical care teams, laboratory operations, and external partners. This position is approximately 40% informatics effort, with the remainder dedicated to clinical, academic, or research responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the Epic informatics lead for Clinical and Anatomic Pathology workflows across ambulatory settings
  • Ensure alignment of Epic solutions with clinical best practices, patient safety standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Maintain awareness of Epic capabilities, system updates, and future roadmap
Workflow Design & Optimization

Lead the design, standardization, and continuous improvement of end-to-end pathology workflows, including but not limited to:

Ambulatory (Outpatient) Workflows
  • In-clinic point-of-care (POC) and lab-performed testing
  • In-clinic specimen collection with:
    • Direct send to external laboratories (e.g., Quest, Cologuard)
    • Send to MGB laboratory network
  • Provider orders for:
    • Lab draw encounters (phlebotomy workflows)
    • Future collection tied to procedures (OB, IR, OR, cardiology, etc.)
    • Home health / remote collection workflows
  • Ambulatory result management workflows, including:
    • Critical result notification
    • Result routing to appropriate providers and care teams
Complex & Specialty Workflows
  • Design and optimization of specialized diagnostic and multi-step workflows, including:
    • Bone marrow and hematopathology workflows
    • Perinatal and fetal pathology workflows
    • Other complex, multi-stage diagnostic pathways requiring coordination across teams
  • Translate clinical, operational, and regulatory needs into clearly defined functional and technical requirements
  • Standardize workflows across sites while accommodating necessary clinical variation
  • Identify and mitigate safety risks, inefficiencies, and workflow fragmentation
Strategy, Governance & Prioritization
  • Partner with the CMIO, pathology leadership, and digital teams to:
    • Define enterprise strategy for pathology informatics
    • Establish governance and prioritization frameworks across Epic initiatives
    • Develop and maintain a multi-year roadmap aligned with organizational goals
Stakeholder Engagement & Change Management
  • Build strong relationships across clinicians, lab leadership, operations, and IT
  • Identify pain points across ambulatory workflows
  • Drive consensus and standardization across diverse clinical and operational environments
  • Lead change management efforts and partner with training teams to support adoption
Program & Project Execution
  • Lead multidisciplinary project teams and design/build sessions
  • Collaborate closely with Epic application teams and digital portfolio leadership
  • Ensure delivery of scalable, reliable, and sustainable solutions
