Overview

Environmental Health & Safety Manager – Amcor, Somerville, MA. This role contributes to Amcor’s mission to deliver sustainable packaging solutions that safely provide food, medicine, and other products to consumers worldwide. The position is responsible for managing safety compliance, risk management, and continuous improvement in a regulated industrial environment.

Responsibilities

As Manager/Supervisor, you will demonstrate partnership, excellence, growth, and safety. Core responsibilities include:

  • Promote a culture of trust and partnership through appreciation, acknowledgement, and inclusion.
  • Commit to the Quality Management System, ISO 9001:2015, and continuous improvement processes.
  • Direct activities related to safety compliance, security, and property/casualty insurance matters.
  • Monitor raw materials and IML Label supplies for product manufacture.
  • Ensure facility maintenance supports a safe work environment.
  • Develop, implement, and manage safety programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintain OSHA 300 log and prepare monthly accident summary reports.
  • Participate in Plant Safety Team meetings as a permanent member.
  • Conduct monthly safety meetings and provide supervisors with safety training for weekly department meetings.
  • Conduct quarterly supervisor/group leader safety reviews and annual manager safety review.
  • Identify hazardous conditions and recommend corrective measures.
  • Investigate all accidents and property losses and manage insurance claims.
  • Organize and oversee all required safety training (e.g., forklift, lockout, etc.).
  • Manage the New Hire Safety Orientation and Onboarding Process.
  • File and maintain MSDS sheets; purchase appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Manage all environmental permits and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Assist inspection personnel from insurance carriers, OSHA, EPA, etc.
  • Recommend and budget for safety capital expenditures and the annual safety budget.
  • Perform any other duties established by the Plant Manager.
  • Qualifications

    Education:

    BS degree in Industrial Safety Management or equivalent experience. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Strong organizational skills and proven ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently. Extensive knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and other governmental regulations.

    Experience:

    1–3 years of safety experience in an industrial setting.

    Physical Demands

    Regular standing, climbing platforms, bending, stooping, and stretching. Ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds and work a 12‑hour shift. Requires close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth vision. Accountable for noise levels that may require hearing protection.

    Work Environment

    Work involves changing priorities and exposure to noise, requiring hearing protection. Safety practices are essential for maintaining a safe workplace.
