Dispensary General Manager – EM  Somerville | Somerville, MA (21+)

Hiring Timeline:
We anticipate filling this position in mid-August 2026 as we prepare for the next phase of our Somerville transition. We encourage interested candidates to apply early, as interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis.

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Dispensary General Manager to lead our Somerville, MA dispensary through an exciting period of growth and transition. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced retail leader to play a pivotal role in bringing the EM  brand, operational standards, and guest experience to a new market.

The General Manager is responsible for all aspects of retail operations, ensuring strong financial performance, operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and an exceptional customer experience. Beyond managing day‑to‑day operations, this leader will build and develop a high‑performing team, establish a culture of accountability and collaboration, and successfully implement EM 's systems, standards, and service philosophy throughout the organization.

Key Responsibilities Sales & Financial Management
  • Drive sales performance by executing promotions, merchandising initiatives, and customer engagement strategies.
  • Analyze key performance indicators (KPIs), including sales, labor, average basket size, conversion, inventory variance, and profitability to identify opportunities for growth.
  • Manage daily sales reporting, cash handling, and reconciliation of all financial transactions.
  • Ensure accurate daily bank deposits and maintain strict cash accountability procedures.
  • Develop and manage store budgets while controlling labor and operating expenses.
  • Partner with Regional Leadership to execute strategic initiatives that improve operational efficiency and financial performance.
Store Operations & Compliance
  • Oversee all day‑to‑day retail operations while maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness, organization, and professionalism.
  • Ensure compliance with all Cannabis Control Commission (CCC) regulations, company SOPs, and all applicable state and local laws.
  • Maintain inventory accuracy through routine cycle counts, audits, reconciliations, and proper METRC inventory management.
  • Ensure all security, safety, and operational procedures are consistently followed.
  • Identify operational opportunities and implement solutions that improve efficiency and enhance the customer experience.
Customer Experience
  • Foster a guest‑first culture focused on education, hospitality, and exceptional service.
  • Address customer concerns promptly, professionally, and with a solution‑oriented approach.
  • Continuously coach the team to deliver an outstanding retail experience that reflects the EM  brand.
Leadership & Team Development
  • Recruit, hire, onboard, train, and retain exceptional team members.
  • Develop Assistant Managers, Leads, and future leaders through coaching, accountability, and performance management.
  • Create and manage weekly schedules that balance business needs with labor efficiency.
  • Conduct regular one‑on‑one meetings, performance evaluations, and ongoing coaching conversations.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, recognition, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Lead by example and maintain professionalism while creating a positive, engaging workplace.
Brand Transition & Culture Leadership
  • Lead the successful transition of the Somerville dispensary into the EM  brand, ensuring operational consistency and a seamless customer experience.
  • Champion EM 's culture, values, leadership expectations, and operational standards throughout the organization.
  • Drive adoption of company SOPs, merchandising standards, service expectations, and operational best practices.
  • Partner closely with Regional Leadership and corporate support teams to successfully implement new initiatives and operational improvements.
  • Serve as a change leader by helping the team embrace new processes while maintaining engagement, morale, and accountability.
Community Engagement
  • Organize and support store events, vendor activations, and community partnerships.
