Job Summary

Responsible for designing statistical models that support clinical research efforts. Designs and develops research projects and manages data and statistical analysis interpretation. May assist a clinical researcher with preparation of reports and documents.

Essential Functions
  • Draw conclusions or make predictions, based on data summaries or statistical analyses.
  • Analyze clinical or survey data, using statistical approaches such as longitudinal analysis, mixed-effect modeling, logistic regression analyses, and model-building techniques.
  • Write detailed analysis plans and descriptions of analyses and findings for research protocols or reports.
  • Calculate sample size requirements for clinical studies.
  • Read current literature, attend meetings or conferences, and talk with colleagues to keep abreast of methodological or conceptual developments in fields such as biostatistics, pharmacology, life sciences, and social sciences.
  • Design research studies in collaboration with physicians, life scientists, or other professionals.

Master's Degree Biostatistics required or Master's Degree Related Field of Study required

Experience as a biostatistician or data analyst 1-2 years preferred

Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) Biostatistics is seeking Biostatisticians to join our team working on a variety of research projects including clinical trials and observational studies. MGH is the largest research hospital in the United States with an annual research budget of approximately one billion dollars. The mission of MGH Biostatistics is to engage in impactful transdisciplinary partnerships involving quantitative methods in public health and biomedicine.

The Biostatistics team includes over 70 members (22 faculty) who are deeply embedded in collaborative research projects across over 25 Divisions and Departments at MGH and beyond including cancer, cardiology, general internal medicine, global health, neurology, pediatrics, psychiatry, pulmonary and critical care medicine, and surgery.

Specific duties of the Biostatistician I include collaborating with clinical investigators under the direction and supervision of senior biostatisticians to:

  • Understand scientific issues, identify and derive required variables, and for malize analysis plans
  • Conduct statistical analyses of data from clinical trials and observational studies, generally according to pre-specified plans
  • Generate reports of study progress, including reports for data and safety monitoring boards
  • Develop programs to perform robust data manipulation and error detection to ensure data integrity
