Anvil Capture Systems is a Somerville, MA-based startupworking to commercialize their novel carbon removal technology. Anvil’s process is uniquely provable, affordable, scalable, and safe, making Anvil a highly competitive entrant in the CO2 removal sector.
Reporting directly to Anvil’s Co-Founders, the Exploration Geochemist will be a critical member of Anvil’s small but growing team. The Exploration Geochemist will oversee analyses and interpretations of rock and mineral samples collected during field mapping, drilling operations, and laboratory tests. They will work with the geology team to plan and conduct site studies and resource modeling with a focus on the geochemistry of rock and mineral targets.
Anvil is located at Greentown Labs, the largest Climate Tech startup incubator in the world. This is a full-time, on-site role. Competitive pay/equity packages will be offered to top-tier candidates.
Requirements- PhD in geological sciences or similar discipline.
- 5+ years of relevant work experience, with direct hands‑on involvement in the exploration and/or mining industry, with significant field experience. Candidates who lack commercial exploration in‑field experience will not be considered for this role.
- Appetite to take on significant responsibility and advance exploration geology for the company.
- Must be able to demonstrate the ability to identify rocks and minerals at the outcrop and hand sample scale.
- Possess expert knowledge of XRD/XRF/TGA/SEM and other laboratory analyses.
- Operate a pXRF and make quick interpretations during field and drilling operations.
- Interpret geochemical data collected on current projects as well as data extracted from scientific literature and/or exploration reports.
- Record detailed drill logs and descriptions.
- Travel regularly in the US and internationally (valid driver’s license and passport required).
- Communicate efficiently and document ideas and results.
- Work in harsh conditions and lift up to 80 lbs.
- Think ahead, unblock yourself, and bring solutions to the table.
- Hold a valid MSHA certification or be able to obtain one shortly after employment.
- Relocate to the Boston area for onsite work upon hiring.
- Experience working in ultramafic and skarn type deposits.
- Experience with ESRI/QGIS/Leapfrog mapping software.
