Job Description

Position Summary

The Somerville High School Evening Door and Building Monitor is responsible for monitoring the main entrance of a school building, screen visitors enforcing security policies and for maintaining a professional and courteous relationship with the staff, children, and families in the program while also overseeing appropriate use of the building during weekday evening hours.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

The essential functions or responsibilities listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed.   • Monitor the front entrance and, if applicable, other designated, exterior doors/gates. Ensure doors are not propped open and remain locked.
  • Verify identification, check in visitors and if applicable, issue passes following school policy.
  • Assist students, staff and visitors entering the school building and direct individuals to the appropriate location within the school building.
  • Conduct regular checks of the school building including hallways and restrooms. Monitor security cameras, if applicable.
  • Report, manage, and/or diffuse, potential safety threats or unauthorized individuals, including the removal of unauthorized persons from school building.
  • Redirect people from unauthorized locations in the building
  • Coordinate with night custodial staff to ensure the building is fully cleared of visitors each evening.
  • Maintain visitor logs and report maintenance or safety concerns.

  • Must possess conflict mediation skills. Maintains a high level of professionalism in all interactions with public, students and school staff.

  • Stationary Tasks:Remaining in a stationary position (sitting/standing) for long periods.
