Statement of Duties
The Parks & Recreation (P&R) Supervisor oversees recreational activities year‑round, including those for children, adults, and seniors. The supervisor manages the P&R Counselor and P&R Aide and performs related tasks.
Essential Functions- Works independently and collaboratively to oversee a variety of Parks & Recreation activities and provide quality programming.
- Supervises and/or assists with setting up and cleaning up facilities after use for special events, including weekends, holidays, and evenings.
- Maintains an environment that facilitates an open and safe space for all Parks & Recreation participants.
- Communicates emergency and non‑emergency situations with stakeholders (parents, participants, staff).
- Monitors facilities for safety and compliance, reporting concerns to Program Coordinator or Developer.
- Provides guidance, support, and acts as a positive role model for SPR participants, counselors, and aides.
- Day‑to‑day supervision of SPR Counselors and Aides, including scheduling, coverage, and rule enforcement as needed.
- Reports any issues or concerns to Recreation Program Coordinator.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma required; preferred if enrolled in a college/university majoring in recreational studies, sports management, education, or physical education.
- Minimum 5 years of recreation or similar field experience, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- First Aid/CPR and AED certification (training provided).
Knowledge: Knowledge of various recreational modalities, program goals, principles of recreational programming and project planning, sports, recreational activities, and the arts.
Abilities: Ability to meet and deal with the public effectively, handle problems, communicate clearly orally and in writing, operate a computer, keep confidential information, maintain organized records, and manage relationships with employees, officials, and the public.
Skills: De‑escalation, mediation, supervisory, problem‑solving, conflict resolution, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), and interpersonal skills to interact with a wide range of individuals.
Work Environment andPhysical Requirements
Work includes office tasks and field exposure to outside elements, with occasional evening or weekend hours. Physical demands involve sitting, stooping, walking, standing, some agility, and lifting up to 30 lbs.
Hours, Salary, and ClassificationPart‑time/Seasonal. Hourly rate $20.00. Non‑Union, Non‑Exempt (FLSA).
