Material Handler

The Material Handler monitors and operates sterilizer systems, manages product handling before and after processing, and ensures all activities meet established safety, quality, and documentation standards. This role works in a clean room environment and supports continuous improvement by actively identifying opportunities to enhance processes, systems, and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and operate sterilizer systems, ensuring correct cycle parameters are achieved and maintained throughout each cycle.
  • Observe pressure, temperature, and relative humidity measurements on charts or computer monitors to verify proper operating conditions.
  • Adjust controls, valves, and system settings in accordance with validated process specifications and standard operating procedures.
  • Perform pre-cycle setup activities, including verifying product identification, configuring loads, creating load configuration labels, and preparing pallets.
  • Perform post-cycle unloading activities, including safe handling, packaging, and staging of product for shipment.
  • Report any abnormal system performance, alarm conditions, or damaged product promptly to the Process Supervisor or Manager.
  • Document and record process readings and cycle data accurately in batch records, logbooks, or electronic data systems as required.
  • Ensure all processing documentation is complete, accurate, and compliant with standard operating procedures and applicable standards.
  • Turn valves and adjust controls to ensure the safe and efficient operation of sterilization equipment and auxiliary systems.
  • Observe sterilizers and auxiliary units to detect malfunctions and assist with repairs as needed.
  • Report system problems to the Engineering team and assist with troubleshooting, repairs, and requalification activities as required.
  • Perform daily and weekly equipment preventive maintenance tasks and assist Maintenance as required.
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the sterilization and staging areas to support cGMP and safety requirements.
  • Unload products, package finished goods, and prepare items for shipping according to established procedures.
  • Store and remove chemicals used in processing in accordance with established procedures and applicable laws.
  • Participate in plant safety committees and follow all established safety rules and regulations.
  • Actively identify and propose enhancements to processes, systems, or procedures to drive continuous improvement.
  • Utilize forklifts and other material handling equipment safely and efficiently to move products and materials.
  • Use technology, including laptops and Microsoft Office software, to complete administrative tasks and documentation.
  • Support team members and assist with other tasks as assigned by the Supervisor.

Essential Skills

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of six months to one year of experience working in a sterilization or chemical environment preferred.
  • Forklift driving experience required.
  • Experience with mechanical devices, tools, and testing equipment required.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak fluent English.
  • Proficiency using laptops and computer software, including Microsoft Office, for administrative duties.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adjust to changing priorities.
  • Sound judgment and decision-making skills related to efficiency, effectiveness, and meeting daily service expectations.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to evaluate situations and prioritize factors in decision making.
  • Dependable and punctual with a strong sense of responsibility.
  • High level of professionalism with excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Positive attitude and strong work ethic.
  • Willingness to work established shifts and overtime as needed.
  • Authorization to work in the United States.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Associate degree in a technology field such as mechanical, electrical, or HVAC is preferred.
  • Experience working in a sterilization or chemical processing environment is preferred.
  • Familiarity with cGMP requirements and safe handling of chemicals is beneficial.
  • Experience participating in safety committees or safety initiatives is an advantage.
  • Background in loading, material handling, or warehouse operations is helpful.
  • Comfort working with process documentation, batch records, and electronic data systems.
