Job SummaryThe Advanced Practice Provider is an independent health care provider who coordinates care through collaboration with the attending physician. The APN provides care in accordance with the objectives, policies and procedures of the practice and the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner Advisory Committee.
The main function of this role is to provide consistent high quality perioperative and postoperative care for all surgery patients. The APP will be expected to function as an active member of the surgery patient care team. Responsibilities include surgical first assisting, perioperative and postoperative management, hospital rounds on inpatients and emergency room consultations. The APP will be expected to work to the full extent of their licensure with an emphasis on supervised autonomy.
EssentialFunctions
- Perform history and physical examinations in preparation for surgical procedures.
- Order appropriate laboratory, radiologic and special diagnostic tests and interpret and report to surgical team.
- May be asked to see emergent consults in the ED and when appropriate treat conditions within the scope of the APPs practice and experience. Communication of complicated surgical emergencies and appropriate preparation for surgery will also be expected.
- Assist with inpatient daily rounds as assigned. This can include wound dressing changes, daily physical exams and addressing any concerns of the patients on the service.
- Thoroughly explains procedures to patients prior to testing.
- Perform appropriate interpretation of laboratory and diagnostic testing.
- Responsible for discharging patients in collaboration with the attending.
- Demonstrates strong organizational skills, communicates effectively and demonstrates time management.
- There will be cross coverage of the critical care unit as needed.
- Performs duties independently and coordinates care with the bedside nurse, attending physician and other consulting providers.
- Compassionately interacts with patients across different areas of care.
- APN or NP.
- Acute care certification preferred.
- 2 years acute care hospital experience preferred.
- Current APN or PA certification.
- Current NJ state license, CDS and DEA.
- Current BLS/ACLS required.
