Job Overview

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is an independent health care provider who coordinates care through collaboration with the surgeon. The PA provides care in accordance with the objectives, policies, and procedures of the practice and the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner Advisory Committee. The main function of this role is to provide consistent, high-quality perioperative/postoperative care for all surgery patients.

The APP will be expected to function as an active member of the surgery patient care team, providing surgical first assisting, perioperative/postoperative management, and working to the full extent of their licensure with an emphasis on supervised autonomy.

Responsibilities
  • Surgical first assisting and perioperative/postoperative management.
  • Communicate surgical emergencies and prepare for surgery.
  • Perform wound dressing changes.
  • Explain procedures to patients thoroughly.
  • Interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational, communication, and time‑management skills.
  • Coordinate care with bedside nurse, attending physician, and consulting providers.
  • Compassionately interact with patients across all areas of care.
Qualifications Required:
  • Current PA Certification
  • Current NJ state license
  • CDS
  • DEA
  • Current BLS/ACLS
Preferred:
  • Acute care certification
  • 3–5 years of acute care hospital experience
Scheduling Requirements
  • 3 x 12‑hour night shifts
  • On‑call rotation
Essential Functions

  • Explain procedures to patients thoroughly.
  • Interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational, communication, and time‑management skills.
  • Perform duties independently and coordinate care with bedside nurse, attending physician, and other consultants.
  • Compassionately interact with patients across different areas of care.
