Reporting to and under the general direction of the Executive Director of Pre‑Collegiate Programs, with additional lead work direction from the Assistant Director, TRiO Sonoma‑Napa County Programs, the Outreach Coordinator performs a wide variety of complex Student Services Professional work by providing comprehensive academic advising services to students and is responsible for case management and assisting in the coordination of outreach services (e.g., student recruitment, college placement, school outreach) for UB Piner participants.

The incumbent works collaboratively with other UB advisors, university staff, faculty, and administrators to support the educational experience of the students/participants, as well as perform other activities related to student success and academic advising.

Key Qualifications

This position requires the equivalent to graduation from a four‑year college or university in a related field, including upper division or graduate coursework in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job‑related. Possession of this knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience. A master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of work experience.

Two years’ experience with TRIO, academic support, or similar programs, including experience working with low‑income, first‑generation minority or disadvantaged students, is required. Additional education beyond a Bachelor’s Degree and/or certifications and training in areas appropriate to the position and demonstrated success in overcoming obstacles similar to that of the target population are preferred. Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency is highly preferred. Intermediate proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) is required.

Knowledge of Google Suite, Student Access, and People Soft is preferred. This position requires successful completion of a live‑scan fingerprinting and a TB test.

Salary and Benefits

Starting salary placement depends on qualifications and experience and will not exceed $5,540 a month. This is a full‑time, fixed‑term, exempt position. Reappointment to this position is dependent on performance, administrative, and budgetary considerations. The university reserves the right to terminate this appointment earlier than the scheduled expiration date.

This position is eligible for a broad range of benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurances, retirement (CalPERS), tuition waiver, vacation and sick leave. In addition, 15 paid holidays are offered each year and a personal holiday may be taken at any time during the year. Sonoma State University is a Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF) Employer.
