Position: 2026/2027 - Associate Faculty - Culinary Arts/Food Technology

Employment Opportunity

Santa Rosa Junior College is currently accepting applications on a continuous basis to establish a pool for associate faculty assignments. Associate assignments may be temporary, part-time and/or on-call and may be immediate or as needed. The Sonoma County Junior College District does not offer 'remote only' assignments.

Assignments are made on a part-time, hourly basis. A part-time faculty assignment may not exceed a total of 67% of an annual full-time assignment.

  • Salary placement is based on academic background, vocational experience, and teaching experience (depending on discipline) and as documented in application materials. Initial Step placement will be at Step 1 pending evaluation of experience as outlined in the AFA Contract.
  • Compensation for assigned classes is paid over the duration of the assignment.

Associate faculty accrue sick leave on a pro-rated basis. Additional information can be found in Article 18 of the AFA Contract.

SRJC offers CalSTRS Defined Benefit, CalSTRS Cash Balance and Social Security as Associate Faculty retirement options. Eligibility for each plan is determined based on prior membership status with CalSTRS.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide excellent instruction and faculty support to students, which may include evening, weekend, online or hybrid and/or off-campus assignments.
  • Provide academic assistance and related services to students during scheduled office hours.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff.
  • Maintain currency in field(s) of expertise.
  • Associate faculty focus primarily on providing instruction and/or student services.
  • Associate faculty are typically not required to participate in District or department service such as committee work, evaluations, student learning outcomes assessment, and hiring committees, but may be asked to perform these services for additional compensation.

Selection Process

If the department has an immediate need to add candidates to their pool, they will review applications. If the department does not have an immediate need to add candidates to their pool, applications remain in the queue for consideration until the need arises, or for up to one year. If selected, candidates will be invited to an interview with a Screening and Interviewing Committee.

Selected candidates who are not given an immediate assignment will remain in the pool for four years.

Culinary Arts Department

The Culinary Arts Department at Santa Rosa Junior College offers certificates in Culinary Arts, Baking and Pastry, Front House Operations, Dining Room Service, and Restaurant Management;
Associate of Arts degrees in Culinary Arts and Restaurant Management: and courses in Ethnic and Specialty cooking. These courses serve certificate students, associate degree students, transfer students, and community students. The Culinary Arts Department offers day, evening, and weekend classes at the Culinary Arts Center across from the Santa Rosa Campus, as well as online courses. Located in one of the gastronomic hubs of the United States, the Culinary Arts Program at SRJC is Sonoma County's leading culinary school in a booming industry.

The program offers thorough, affordable, innovative instruction, preparing a workforce of qualified future chefs, pastry chefs, restaurant managers, and business owners. SRJC Culinary Arts students are prepared for the realities of working in a global professional world.
