Director of Operations — Part-Time
Lansing Shuffle | Lansing, Michigan
Part-Time | Approximately 8–12 Hours per Week | Primarily On-Site
About the RoleLansing Shuffle is seeking an experienced hospitality leader to serve as our part-time Director of Operations.
We have an established General Manager and management team responsible for running the business day-to-day. We’re looking for a seasoned operator who can provide an additional layer of leadership, accountability, and operational oversight.
This is not a shift-management position and not a traditional part-time restaurant manager role. The Director of Operations will work primarily through our existing management team—helping set expectations, reviewing performance, identifying problems before they become bigger problems, and ensuring the operation consistently meets ownership’s expectations.
This could be an excellent opportunity for an experienced restaurant, hotel, food & beverage, entertainment, or hospitality executive who wants to stay engaged in the industry without the hours and demands of a traditional full-time operating role.
What You’ll Do Management & Accountability- Provide direct oversight, coaching, and accountability to the General Manager and management team
- Establish clear operating expectations and ensure consistent follow-through
- Help management identify and address performance issues
- Evaluate whether the right people, processes, and systems are in place
- Serve as the primary local operational liaison between management and ownership
- Conduct regular on-site walkthroughs and operational reviews
- Evaluate guest experience, cleanliness, service, staffing, security, and overall facility standards
- Periodically observe the operation during peak evening and weekend periods
- Identify recurring operational problems and ensure corrective actions are implemented
- Help create systems and processes that make the operation more consistent and less dependent on individual employees
- Review key operating metrics including sales, labor, beverage cost, purchasing, inventory, and profitability
- Work with management to understand variances and develop corrective plans
- Identify opportunities to reduce unnecessary costs without compromising the guest experience
- Hold managers accountable for agreed-upon financial and operating targets
- Identify opportunities to improve revenue, efficiency, service, and profitability
- Help ownership prioritize operational initiatives
- Assist with significant vendor, staffing, or operational decisions when appropriate
- Bring an experienced operator’s perspective to the ongoing development of Lansing Shuffle
The Director of Operations is not expected to:
- Build weekly employee schedules
- Routinely manage individual shifts
- Cover employee or manager call-offs
- Handle routine ordering or administrative tasks
- Replace the General Manager
Your role is to make the management team better and hold the operation accountable—not to do their jobs for them.
