Job Summary

Under general supervision of the Director of the Center for Teaching and Educational Technology (CTET), with additional lead work direction from the CTET Lead Classroom Technology Coordinator, the Classroom Technology Support Specialist (CTSS) provides advanced technical support and consultation to the university community, ensuring seamless access to systems, data, and applications. The incumbent works collaboratively with CTET’s academic technology support team, the Division of Academic Affairs, academic departments and faculty, and other campus partners such as Information Technology to oversee and actively maintain Sonoma State University (SSU) classroom technologies.

The incumbent provides direct support for all classroom technology in campus general assignment classrooms, including both basic (Tier I) and advanced (Tier II) technical support, and collaborates with colleagues and external vendors as necessary to facilitate support. The incumbent provides basic (Tier I) support for all academic technology at CTET's help desk. Under the direction of CTET leadership, the incumbent consults with other campus units on special projects related to audio-visual needs.

The incumbent supports the effective use of educational technology tools by leading workshops and trainings for faculty on both technical and pedagogical topics.

SSU classroom technologies include but are not limited to:
Audio-visual control systems, IPLink hardware, Extron Technology devices, Windows and Apple OS desktop and laptop computers, data projectors and other projection equipment, video presentation systems, cables and adapters, audio-visual recording systems (including lecture capture systems), video playback systems, sound reinforcement and amplification systems, and video conferencing platforms (e.g., Zoom). SSU academic technologies include but are not limited to:
Canvas, Zoom, Panopto, and ChatGPT.

The incumbent is required to possess a working knowledge of classroom technology management and support, including functions of equipment, tools and software necessary to access and configure equipment. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelor's degree in computer science, educational technology, communications, or a related field, or similar certified coursework in applicable fields of study. The incumbent must have acquired the requisite skills and knowledge to be able to demonstrate competence in independently applying technical judgment standard and nonstandard applications and systems, solving a wide range of problems and developing practicable and thorough solutions.

Three years or the equivalent of working experience with classroom technology systems is highly preferred. High proficiency with standard office productivity software such as Microsoft Office and Google Suite, and thorough knowledge of Mac OS X and Windows operating systems and hardware, with the ability to troubleshoot malfunctions, is required.

This is a full time, exempt position, which will lead toward permanent status following the successful completion of a probationary period. Step placement will be determined based on relevant qualifications and professional experience and be in the range of $5,787 to $6,517 per month (step 1 - step
7). The CSU Classification Step Range for this position is $4,626 - $6,739 per month (step 1 - step 20).
