Job Summary

The Manual Grinder will work with chamfer grinders and other various manual machines to produce premium quality, high precision cutting tools. The role involves verifying accuracy using engineering prints, component drawings, assembly drawings, and engineering specifications, and assembling the final product according to build sheets.

• Responsible for the setup and offsets as required.
• Study blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions, tolerances, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
• Verify conformance of finished work pieces to specifications.
• Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and material on machines such as mills, lathes, grinders, and shapers.
• Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors—speed, feed, depth, and angle of cut.
• Check machinery daily to ensure functionality.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Use prints and bill of materials to assemble the final product.

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
• Certification from a qualified training institution in machining preferred but not required.
• Minimum of 1 year machine shop experience required.
• Experience with surface grinders preferred.

• Strong math skills, including conversion between metric and inch, decimal and fraction.
• Accurate reading of blueprints.
• Calculation of dimensions and tolerances using mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and calipers.
• Machining parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders.
• Measuring, examining, and testing completed tools to detect defects and ensure conformance with specifications.
• Setting up, adjusting, and operating basic machine tools for precision machining operations.
• Monitoring feeds and speeds of machines during the machining process.

• Prolonged periods of standing with some lifting, bending, and twisting.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to stoop, bend, or kneel when required.
