Assistant Controller

Location: South Bend, Indiana
Work Arrangement: Fully Onsite
Salary: $100,000–$120,000

We are seeking a highly motivated Assistant Controller to join a growing organization in South Bend, Indiana. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional with 4+ years of progressive experience who is ready to take the next step in their career and grow into a larger leadership role within the organization.

The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in cost accounting, financial reporting, and general accounting, along with experience in a public accounting environment. This individual will work closely with leadership and operational teams to provide accurate financial information, strengthen processes, and support key business decisions.

• Support the Controller with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes and financial reporting.

• Prepare and analyze financial statements, account reconciliations, journal entries, and supporting schedules.

• Take ownership of cost accounting, including inventory, standard costs, variances, margins, and manufacturing-related analysis.

• Partner with operations and leadership to analyze financial performance, identify trends, and provide actionable insights.

• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.

• Maintain and strengthen internal controls and accounting processes.

• Support external audits and serve as a key accounting contact for public accounting partners.

• Identify opportunities for process improvement, automation, and increased efficiency across the accounting function.

• Assist with developing and improving accounting policies, procedures, and reporting processes.

• Take on increasing responsibility with the goal of progressing into a broader Controller-level leadership position.

• 4+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

• Public accounting experience strongly preferred.

• Strong hands-on experience with cost accounting, preferably within a manufacturing environment.

• Solid understanding of financial reporting, month-end close, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.

• Strong analytical skills with the ability to understand and communicate financial results.

• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.

• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both accounting and operational teams.

• Demonstrated ability to identify problems, improve processes, and take ownership of responsibilities.
