Position Overview

The Drain Rack Technician is responsible for safely and efficiently preparing “end‑of‑life” vehicles for final processing at Paul’s Auto Yard. This includes using a rack‑and‑hose draining system to remove all automotive fluids—such as engine oil, fuel, transmission fluid, and coolant—prior to crushing and shredding. This is an essential position that helps maintain safety, environmental compliance, and smooth yard operations. No prior experience or certifications are required—we provide full training.

Key Responsibilities
  • Drain all automotive fluids (oil, fuel, transmission fluid, coolant, etc.) from vehicles using company‑provided equipment.
  • Process 20–40 vehicles per day, depending on yard volume and daily needs.
  • Inspect each vehicle for leaks or safety concerns before draining.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues such as clogged hoses, pump malfunctions, or blockage in valves.
  • Transfer drained fluids from full containers to bulk storage or designated disposal systems.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the drain rack work area.
  • Follow all safety procedures and use required PPE.
  • Work outdoors year‑round in varying weather conditions.
  • Assist with other yard duties as needed.
Skills & Qualifications
  • No certifications required; all training provided.
  • Mechanical aptitude or experience with tools/machinery is helpful but not required.
  • Ability to work safely around automotive fluids, chemicals, and outdoor environmental elements.
  • Must be able to lift 25-50 lbs and perform physical labor throughout the shift.
  • Reliable, punctual, and capable of working independently.
Work Environment
  • Outdoor yard setting with exposure to weather (heat, cold, rain, snow).
  • Frequent contact with oil, fuel, coolant, grease, and other automotive fluids.
  • Requires bending, lifting, standing for long periods, and use of hand tools and hoses.
  • PPE supplied by the company.
