Position Summary:

The Family and Community School Specialist (FACSS) is responsible for Title I parent involvement events, assists with organizing the annual Title I parent meeting, makes home visits, coordinates the school volunteer program & school partnerships, is a member of the school's Title I TILT, SAT, or GEIT team, and maintains data for Title I records and compliance materials.

Requirements:
Applicants for the position of Family and Community School Specialist must possess the following:
Bachelor's degree and experience working with children and families in a field related to education, sociology, or psychology. Demonstrated ability to collaborate with a team of professionals, problem-solve issues, organize events, and meet deadlines. Flexibility of schedule to implement family meetings and events based on programming needs. Exceptional oral and written communication skills in working with multiple cultures and individuals in a variety of media and settings.

Demonstrated ability to use computer technology to maintain records, complete equipment inventory, create communication tools, and report student progress.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Title I Team Collaborate with the school Title I (TILT), SAT or GEIT team and Principal to focus interventions on grades K-5 or 6-8 failing or at-risk of failing students. Make home visits related to academic success for students in grades K-5 or 6-8 who are determined to be failing or at risk of failing. Observe in classrooms at-risk students at the request of the principal to gather information to help communicate to parents how school and family can work together.

Maintain bimonthly communication through school-based conferences, home visits, and/or telephone conversations with parents of students who are determined to be academically at-risk, at the request of TILT, SAT, GEIT or the principal. Meet with parents of identified failing or at risk of failing students to gather additional information, examine student needs, provide resources for parent support of literacy in the home, and procure student enrollment.

Participate in TILT, SAT, or GEIT team to provide student data and information, develop a plan for parent communication, coordinate outside agency resources in collaboration with the social worker and other Title I team, and maintain compliance binder. Collaborate with building administrator(s), school staff and parents to implement and evaluate the Title I program. Participate in Parent/Teacher conferences when requested.

Maintain weekly communication with the building principal, by submitting schedules, plans, and any other information as requested; follow school procedures for signing in and out of the building. Maintain weekly communication with intervention specialists and other Title I team members. Establish on-going communication with teachers. Attend Monthly FACSS meetings.

Parent Learning Experiences:
Coordinate and implement "Three for Me" parent volunteer program. Ensure that required compliance documents are distributed to all Title I parents. Maintain and generate a list of materials to be housed in the school's Parent Resource Room/Area. Be familiar with other area parent/community programs and resources. Implement two family events for parents; one focused on reading and one focused on math.

Other parent involvement events may be scheduled according to the district and school's needs.

Data Management:
Maintain parent involvement data (Three for Me). Gather and maintain additional data as requested by the Director of Title I. Submit data to the Director of Title I according to the established schedule. Collect data for failing or at-risk of failing students and TILT referrals. Maintain a database for student / parent events. Enter home visits into Power School.

Additional School Community and School Climate Roles:
Coordinate parent and community volunteers. Contribute to a parent newsletter to be included with school's Home Bulletin. A copy is to be submitted to Title I. Support and assist the school staff and parent organizations with student /parent events. Attend parent…
