Position SummaryThe Department of Biological Sciences at Indiana University South Bend invites applications for a full‑time Lecturer position starting either January 1 or August 1, 2027. The teaching load is 12 credit hours of undergraduate coursework each semester (fall and spring), which may include evening, weekend, off‑site, or online courses. Summer teaching is voluntary and is compensated separately. The successful candidate will teach introductory biology (including labs), high‑demand courses such as introductory physiology, and may teach upper‑level undergraduate courses in their area of expertise.
Lecturers are expected to participate in departmental service activities, including faculty meetings and committee work. The position does not require a research program or publications.
- Teach 12 credit hours of undergraduate coursework each semester, including labs.
- Deliver courses in introductory biology, introductory physiology, and upper‑level courses as appropriate.
- Teach face‑to‑face and online courses as needed.
- Participate in department service activities such as faculty meetings and committee service.
- Minimum of an MS degree in biology or a related biological field.
- Evidence of university‑level teaching experience and interest, including biology labs.
- Demonstrated success working with faculty and student populations.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- PhD degree strongly preferred; ABD candidates may apply but will not be given preference.
- Strong background in a field of biology that complements existing faculty expertise, especially experience teaching in at least two of these areas: genetics, physiology, plant sciences, or evolution.
- Experience with a variety of teaching methods and curricular perspectives.
- Letter of application addressing qualifications.
- Teaching statement (or philosophy).
