Position Description

St. Anthony de Padua Catholic School is seeking a dedicated, faith-filled educator to serve as a
Part-Time 6th Grade English/Language Arts Teacher
. This position offers the opportunity to inspire students through engaging instruction while fostering their academic, spiritual, and personal growth within a Christ-centered learning environment. The position is scheduled for
20 hours or less per week
during the school year.

The successful candidate will teach 6th Grade English/Language Arts, developing students' reading comprehension, writing, grammar, vocabulary, speaking, listening, and critical thinking skills. The teacher will create engaging, standards-based lessons aligned with Indiana Academic Standards and diocesan curriculum expectations while differentiating instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.

As a member of the St. Anthony Catholic School community, the teacher will model Catholic values, support the spiritual formation of students, and collaborate with administrators, colleagues, and families to promote student success. Responsibilities are proportional to the part-time assignment and include instructional planning, assessment, grading, communication with parents, and participation in required faculty meetings and professional development.

This position is ideal for an educator who is passionate about literacy, enjoys working with middle school students, and is committed to academic excellence and Catholic education.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

In accordance with the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend expectations, the Part-Time 6th Grade English/Language Arts Teacher will:

  • Model and teach Catholic doctrine, values, and morals.
  • Foster the spiritual development of students through daily interactions and classroom instruction.
  • Work cooperatively with administrators, faculty, students, and parents to strengthen the faith community of the school and parish.
  • Plan and deliver engaging 6th Grade English/Language Arts instruction aligned with Indiana Academic Standards and diocesan curriculum guidelines.
  • Teach reading comprehension, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and language conventions using a variety of instructional strategies.
  • Differentiate instruction to support diverse learning styles and academic needs.
  • Use formative and summative assessments to monitor student growth and inform instruction.
  • Provide timely feedback, maintain accurate grades, and complete required student records.
  • Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress and classroom expectations.
  • Maintain a positive, organized, and respectful classroom environment while consistently enforcing school policies.
  • Supervise students during assigned instructional periods and other designated duties appropriate to the part-time assignment.
  • Participate in required faculty meetings, professional development, and school improvement initiatives as appropriate for the position.
  • Commit to ongoing faith formation and professional growth.
  • Perform other duties related to the position as assigned by the principal.
Education, Experience, and Skills Required
  • Meets the requirements outlined in Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend Policy P3020 regarding Non-Discrimination and Religious Standards.
  • Holds or is eligible to obtain a valid Indiana teaching license appropriate for English/Language Arts or the assigned grade level.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of effective middle school literacy instruction and best practices in reading and writing.
  • Possesses excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrates strong classroom management, organization, and instructional planning skills.
  • Is able to communicate clearly and effectively in spoken and written English.
  • Is physically able to fulfill the essential responsibilities of supervising and instructing students.
  • Demonstrates professionalism, collaboration, flexibility, and a commitment to continuous growth.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field.
  • Previous experience teaching English/Language Arts.
  • Experience in a Catholic or faith-based school is preferred.
  • Familiarity with educational technology and digital instructional tools that enhance literacy instruction.
