Job Description

The English/Language Arts teacher will be responsible for providing effective instruction in Language Arts. Instruction must be driven by the Common Core Standards. The teacher must implement learning activities that are relevant to the lives of the students. Students with IEPs will be mainstreamed in these classes and the teacher must provide accommodations as written in the students’ IEPs. The teacher will work effectively with a special education co‑teacher and paraprofessional.

As the lead teacher, the teacher will direct and supervise the paraprofessional and collaborate with the special education teacher in lesson planning and instruction.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Teach English/Literature Arts curriculum to support student mastery of Indiana Academic Standards
  • Use differentiated instructional strategies and data to guide instruction and lesson plans that engage students in the learning process
  • Manage the learning process and focus on students’ individual needs while assessing student growth
  • Use formative assessments to inform students of their progress and modify instructional plans accordingly
  • Create and maintain a safe classroom environment and apply effective classroom management strategies
  • Maintain 8‑Step Assessment Data
  • Work collaboratively in a Professional Learning Community
  • Record grades using the Corporation electronic grade book
  • Monitor student progress and complete Quarterly Progress Reports
  • Engage students, families, and support personnel in timely discussions regarding student progress and improvement plans
  • Maintain professional responsibility for planning, implementing, and evaluating the process of learning through participation in required staff meetings and professional development; collaborate with the grade‑level team
  • Utilize SBCSC technology as required
  • Other duties as assigned by the principal
Qualifications

Language Arts License or Endorsement is required. If not licensed, a one‑year temporary emergency permit with the Indiana Department of Education must be obtained. A bachelor’s degree is required. Experience working with diverse populations, day‑to‑day school operations, and strong knowledge of child development are essential. Demonstrated skill in building relationships rooted in trust and respect, a creative and imaginative problem‑solving approach, and effective communication with students, staff, and parents are required.

Demands

Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and other office equipment, sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods of time; kneeling; bending at the waist; lifting, pushing, pulling and carrying equipment, supplies and materials weighing up to 25 pounds; repetitive hand movement and fine coordination to use a computer keyboard;

emotional stability to work effectively under pressure and maintain control of all aspects of the job; hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone; and seeing to read and prepare documents accurately.
