Developmental Therapist - Early Learning Partnerships

The Developmental Therapist will work with Early Learning programs serving children born through age 5 in St. Joseph County. Responsibilities include integrating therapeutic support strategies into classrooms, documenting teacher‑modeled strategies, and providing training and education to teachers and families on developmental delays, disabilities, and challenging behaviors. The therapist will also administer developmental screenings as needed and offer Early Intervention Therapies as a First Steps Developmental Therapist for children birth‑to‑age 3.

In this role, the therapist implements, evaluates, and documents each child’s therapeutic plan in collaboration with parents or guardians during home visits.

• Devise and implement teaching styles and strategies that align with Early Learning Programs and each child/family’s developmental status.
• Facilitate caregivers in acquiring resources and support to meet program goals.
• Support teachers and children within classroom settings.
• Provide families and teachers with a developmental learning model to clarify and meet children’s needs.
• Consult with community service providers who serve LOGAN’s clients.
• Lead small‑group consultations for families with shared needs.
• Prepare Individualized Family Service Plans in partnership with parents, agencies, and ancillary staff.
• Evaluate and record each child’s programming, recommending curriculum enhancements or alternative placements as appropriate.
• Alert appropriate staff and professionals to any special needs of the child or family.
• Advise Directors and staff on expanding services or innovative programs to meet unmet client needs.
• Maintain child safety and serve as a role model, advocate, and protector of children’s rights.
• Participate in required training for supervisors and LOGAN staff.
• Plan trainings, instructional activities, and community outreach as needed.
• Submit required documentation promptly and uphold confidentiality and cultural diversity policies.
• Serve on LOGAN committees addressing internal operations, as requested.
• Provide evaluations across settings to assess program needs.
• Collaborate with First Steps staff and other agencies to develop Individual Family Service Plans.
• Deliver reports and written programs to families, teachers, and professionals following First Steps guidelines.

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in child development, special education, early childhood education, nursing, or a field required by the Indiana First Steps Program.

• Preferred:
  One year of experience with children ages 0‑3.
• Preferred:
  One year of experience in infant/toddler classrooms within an Early Learning Program (not required).

• Effective communication with staff, supervisors, and agency personnel.
• Ability to build and maintain relationships with community partners, teachers, children, and families.
• Conduct developmental screenings and demonstrate activities and strategies to families.
• Creative problem–solving and innovation.
• Independent judgment and organizational skills for timely paperwork.
• Physical ability to lift a child up to approximately 55 pounds with adaptive equipment.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• License as a First Steps Provider in the state of Indiana.
• Commitment to complete all required training related to screenings, Early Learning Programs, curricula, and professional development.
