POSITION TITLE: Guidance Counselor

SALARY RANGE: Contract Salary

CONTRACT LENGTH: Teacher Contract

POSITION SUMMARY:

Assumes major responsibility for counseling and guidance services for students assigned at the building level.

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Building Principal

DUTIES:

• Scheduling students in their program of studies.
• Implement testing program.
• Act as a consultant to parents regarding their child and his/her progress and/or adjustment.
• Candidate participates in the 8-Step Process of instruction and remediation/enrichment.
• Provide personal counseling for students experiencing adjustment difficulties.
• Candidate uses data to guide instructional decision making and works collaboratively in a Professional Learning Community.
• Act as a consultant to teachers regarding individual students with learning and/or behavior problems.
• Guide students regarding career development.
• Help students to obtain financial aid for post-high school education.
• Refer students to outside agencies for help when necessary.
• Registration and orientation of new students.
• Assists with the coordination of case conferences.
• Urban education experience.
• Extensive background in designing and implementing innovative programming for adolescent students and families.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s degree in guidance and counseling.

Indiana State license in school counseling.

Experience with intermediate school age students.

Observed ability to establish strong rapport with students and adults.
