Role Description
This is a full-time on-site role for a Virtual Math Teacher at SBCSC Virtual School in South Bend. The SBCSC Virtual School teacher is responsible for providing a flexible, personalized learning experience that meets the needs of a variety of learners in accordance with district and state policies and laws. The virtual teacher will be comfortable using learning tools efficiently to support instruction and interaction.
Teachers are expected to record and share each class session with students for flexible access. In addition to whole-group instruction, daily one-on-one tutoring must be provided to support individual student needs and ensure academic success. Strong communication, tech-savviness, and a student-centered mindset are essential for this role. The Virtual teacher is highly-qualified and certified. Each teacher is responsible for the delivery of the specified course content for grades 6 to 12.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct live, synchronous instruction via Google Meet, ensuring interactive and engaging lessons.
- Provide a Google calendar link appointment schedule for daily tutoring instruction outside of the live meet sessions. This link must be posted on your Canvas home page for each class.
- Customize and manage imported course content through the Canvas Learning Management System in classes each semester for grades 6 to 12.
- Possess strong familiarity with Canvas and experience managing digital classrooms is essential.
- Effectively integrate virtual learning tools such as Edpuzzle, Kahoot, Book Creator, Jamboard, Quizizz, Interactive Slides, Achieve 3000, Khan Academy, ALEK’s and other tools to support instruction, assignments, and assessments. These tools allow for interactive assessments, multimedia content delivery, and creative expression, making lessons more dynamic and personalized.
- Provide timely and constructive feedback on student work, and regularly track academic progress.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff to support student success.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and collaborative planning sessions.
- Establish course pacing and monitor student progress.
- Customize grading practices to meet course and school policy standards.
- Maintain up-to-date records, syncing assignments and grades regularly with Power School.
- Be proactive, organized, and comfortable working independently in a virtual environment.
- Monitor a designated homeroom group to ensure students are meeting state attendance requirements and staying on pace in their courses.
- Proctor multiple in-person standardized tests throughout the year, including the PSAT, SAT, ILEARN, IREAD, and WIDA assessments. Educators must complete all state-required training to ensure compliance with testing protocols and procedures.
- Complete training on the SBVS app to effectively support students and families in the virtual learning environment and use the app as a primary tool for engagement, ensuring that all learners have access to important updates, resources, and support.
- Patience and flexibility are essential, as you'll be working with students who may struggle with time management and self-discipline.
- Willingness to accommodate students who may need help outside of normal school hours.
Qualifications:
- Valid teaching license for grades 6 through 12 in the required content area.
- Experience teaching in a virtual or blended learning environment.
- Proficient with Canvas LMS and other digital instructional tools.
- Knowledge in the Edmentum products such as Courseware and APEX.
- Familiarity with Power School or similar student information systems.
- Excellent organization, time management, and communication skills.
- Self-motivated and able to work with a diverse population.
