Basic Function: The MTSS/Mental Health Coach will provide direct support to staff and support implementation of Multi-Tiered System of Support using an interconnected systems framework that integrates Positive Behavior Intervention Supports and School Mental Health. This position will also model equity and culturally responsive practices in partnership with staff, students and families. The MTSS/Mental Health Coach will provide hands on support to implement with fidelity Tier I, Tier II and Tier III practices.

They will work in close collaboration with school personnel, and coaching MTSS teams in analyzing student data, selecting effective educational strategies to a diverse student body, and providing professional development to the school community in alignment with district and department goals. This role will also use mental health expertise in coordinating individual/group counseling for K – 8 students by providing direct services or through the navigation of the referral process with our community mental health partners.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Monitors, and collaborates with staff and administrators in the school wide integration of MTSS.
• Collaborates with school MTSS teams to address issues of disproportionality for students and applies school discipline policies and practices in a manner that is gender-responsive, culturally competent and in compliance with title VI, and its implementing regulation.
• Collaborates with principals, teachers, and support staff for the purpose of promoting positive student social emotional support throughout the entire school.
• Ensures consistent use of MTSS implementation systems at each school site.
• Support academic practices that are culturally and linguistically responsive.
• Communicates with school leadership and MTSS Leadership teams on the uses of student and school-wide data systems to analyze Tier I, Tier II, and Tier III to inform decision making.
• Participates in regional, statewide and national trainings for both PBIS and Social Emotional Behavioral Support
• Coaches and trains staff on Equity and MTSS implementation using the Midwest PBIS Interconnected Systems Framework model and tools
• Maintains a cooperative working relationship with parents, staff, and district personnel and effective and timely written and oral communication.
• Serves on district committees as requested.
• Maintains professional competence through professional reading and research on MTSS.
• Maintains working knowledge of mental health therapeutic process.
• Provides instruction and professional development for the implementation of 1
  
  SEL curriculum.
• Collaborates with community partners to facilitate prevention education programming.
• Coordinates efforts to effectively engage parents.
• Co-coordinates the rapid response crisis intervention team.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
:
Master of Social Work Degree required. Experience in an urban school setting applying social emotional instruction with diverse learners in core instructional areas (literacy, mathematics) preferred. Certification/Training in TIC (Trauma-Informed Care), RJ (Restorative Justice), MTSS (multi-tiered systems of support), RtI (Response to Intervention), PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports), and Equity and Cultural Awareness preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

• Knowledge of Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS, RtI, PBIS)
• Knowledge of Indiana Academic Standards
• Knowledge of Social Emotional Learning Standards
• Knowledge and background in intercultural or cross cultural relations
• Knowledge in learning methodologies for children and adults
• Knowledge in instructional strategies related to tiered support such as, evidence-based practices, fidelity of implementation, progress monitoring tools, data-based decision making, problem-solving, and universal screening
• Skills in providing professional development
• Skills in interpersonal and written communication
• Skills in participating as a member of a systems team
• Skills in data management, including scoring, organizing, analyzing, interpreting and reporting results
