Job Description
This role offers an excellent opportunity for a civil engineer with at least two years of water resources experience to play a key role in planning, designing, and implementing potable water, wastewater, stormwater, and related infrastructure projects. You will join a collaborative project team focused on helping communities and industries solve complex environmental infrastructure challenges, including water distribution, wastewater collection, and transportation projects.
The position emphasizes professional growth through mentoring, exposure to diverse municipal projects, and a clear path toward professional licensure and leadership roles.
Responsibilities
* Collaborate closely with project managers, project engineers, CAD designers, and environmental scientists to deliver high-quality water, wastewater, stormwater, and transportation projects.
* Prepare engineering reports, construction documents, cost estimates, and technical memoranda that clearly communicate design intent and project requirements.
* Perform design calculations under the supervision of a project engineer or project manager, contributing to the design of pump stations, collection systems, distribution systems, and water/wastewater treatment facilities.
* Interpret and apply federal, state, and local regulations related to water resources and stormwater in the planning and design of projects.
* Contact government officials to obtain necessary permits and prepare complete and accurate permit applications.
* Conduct site visits, field investigations, and inspections as needed to support design, construction, and compliance activities.
* Coordinate with contractors during design and construction to clarify plans, resolve issues, and help ensure projects are built according to specifications.
* Communicate technical findings and project updates effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including clients and community representatives.
* Support the planning and design of water distribution systems, wastewater collection systems, and transportation infrastructure such as roads, streets, sidewalks, and trails for municipal clients.
* Assist with stormwater engineering tasks, including analysis and design, as part of broader water resources projects.
* Provide guidance and informal oversight to less experienced engineering interns when appropriate, contributing to a supportive learning environment.
* Work with an assigned mentor to develop technical skills, project management capabilities, and progress toward professional licensure.
Essential Skills
* Minimum 2+ years of experience in water resources engineering.
* Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering; a graduate degree is a plus.
* Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam certification with active progress toward Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.
* Experience with water and wastewater projects such as pump stations, collection systems, distribution systems, and treatment plants.
* Knowledge of water resources, water and wastewater systems, and stormwater engineering principles.
* Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D for civil design and plan production.
* Understanding of hydraulics and experience using hydraulic modeling software.
* Ability to interpret and apply federal, state, and local regulations related to water resources and stormwater.
* Strong ability to prepare engineering reports, construction documents, cost estimates, and technical memoranda.
* Capability to perform design calculations under the direction of a professional engineer or project manager.
* Effective verbal and written communication skills to engage with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders.
* Valid driver's license to support travel for site visits and field investigations.
Additional
Skills & Qualifications
* Experience with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling tools is a plus.
* Ability to apply technical skills to meet project demands and solve complex problems for clients.
* Positive attitude and a strong work ethic, with a commitment to delivering quality work.
* Clear sense of urgency and self-initiative to meet deadlines and manage tasks proactively.
* Attention to detail and a focus on accuracy in design, documentation, and analysis.
* Ability to contribute to a positive, team-oriented work environment.
* Interest in progressing toward PE licensure and future roles such as project manager, associate, partner, or ownership opportunities.
* Comfort interacting directly with clients and representing the firm in a professional manner.
