Position:Planner I
South Bend, IN office.
Job SummaryThe Planner I possesses knowledge and expertise in the principles and practices of planning, research, data collection, and analysis. The Planner I is part of a team that develops land use and community plans and studies.
Responsibilities- Works on both site development projects and land use/community planning processes.
- Applies regulations to real-world field conditions.
- Interprets, organizes, executes, and coordinates project assignments.
- Assists with developing land use plans and ordinances.
- Assists and attends public meetings, community engagement or other events (often nights and weekends).
- Reviews or assists in the review of development site plans and plats.
- Prepares land use petitions for submission.
- Collects a variety of statistical data and prepares reports and maps for development and land use planning projects.
- Understands local, regional, state, and federal zoning regulatory processes.
- Performs planning activities and works with other staff to move projects toward the final design and construction phases.
- Assists in the preparation of proposals and grant applications.
- Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Landscape Architecture, and Architecture preferred.
- None.
- 0-2 years of experience required with a bachelor’s degree/ 3+ years of planning experience required without a degree.
- Possesses effective verbal, written, and presentation skills.
- Interacts with firm, local planning departments, and clients.
- Possesses excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Possesses a strong knowledge of land use planning principles, zoning regulations, and environmental considerations.
- Possesses familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, graphic design, CAD, and GIS systems.
- Ability to conduct research and analyze data.
