Position Overview
Clinically reports to the Practice Site Physician(s) and administratively to the Practice Manager/Director. Under the direction of the physician(s), the Physician Assistant is responsible for the coordination and delivery of care for BMG patients. Educates patients regarding health promotion, illness prevention and disease management.

- Assess patients’ medical history and perform physical examinations within scope of service for a physician assistant.
- Evaluate and treat injuries within scope of practice for a physician assistant.
- Administer medications and injections as prescribed.
- Educate patients regarding health promotion, illness prevention and disease management.
- Document, code, and complete diagnosis of patients’ condition to facilitate appropriate insurance reimbursement.
- Attend and participate in related seminars, conferences and educational offerings, as approved.
- Read current professional medical and nursing journals.
- Develop and maintain affiliation with professional organizations.
- Assist in planning changes in clinic/office procedures to improve the quality and delivery of health care.
- Participate in Quality Improvement programs; monitor quality and outcomes of care rendered.
- Assist in development and compliance of clinical protocols, policies and procedures.
- Maintain current knowledge of all pertinent legislation and related to physicians and staff.
- Communicate with physicians to ensure quality and timeliness for services rendered to patients.
- Complete other job related duties as assigned.
- Attend and participate in department meetings and be accountable for all information shared.
- Complete mandatory education, annual competencies and department specific education within established time frames.
- Complete annual employee health requirements within established time frames.
- Maintain license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year.
- Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required by position/department.
- Consistently utilize appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self.
- Adhere to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.
- Comply with established organization and department policies.
- Be available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required.

The knowledge, skills, and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of an accredited school for Physician Assistants, current Indiana license and certification as a Physician Assistant and minimum two years’ experience as a Physician Assistant in a family practice setting.
Knowledge & Skills- Requires thorough and complete understanding of medical and nursing care practices, policies and procedures in order to function in area of specialty.
- Demonstrates high level of analytical ability necessary to assess patients and evaluate services rendered.
- Demonstrates well developed interpersonal skills necessary to interact in a professional manner with patients and families, physicians and other health care professionals.
- Demonstrates excellent communication skills, both oral and written, to disseminate information in a clear, concise manner.
- Demonstrates ability to function within legal boundaries of a Physician Assistant and utilize knowledge of governing statutes and rules.
- Works in a clinic environment with some exposure to biohazards.
- Requires the physical ability and stamina (e.g., to walk/stand for prolonged periods of time, push carts/wheelchairs, lift up to 50 pounds, to position/lift patients at a maximum of 35 pounds without assistance, provide CPR, etc.) to perform the essential functions of the position.
