The Direct Support Professional will engage proactively as part of a team to assist clients with developmental disabilities in pursuing activities of their preference, both within all LOGAN facilities and in the community. Understanding the unique goals and interests of each supported client is crucial for a DSP in fulfilling their role effectively. A DSP should prioritize acknowledging and nurturing the skills and abilities of each client, emphasizing strengths rather than obstacles, especially in the context of those seeking employment opportunities.
RequirementsEssential Functions
- Provides a positive environment for clients participating in Life Enrichment and Employment Pathways.
- Encourages clients to be as independent as possible in their daily routine.
- Actively listens to clients and encourages them to express their personal preferences and interests.
- Implements goals/objectives for clients in service, collecting data and noting performance information daily.
- Initiates activities within the service setting and encourages clients to participate in the activities.
- Understands the significance of enabling clients to actively participate in community activities.
- Facilitates integration into the community during day program hours by inviting others in and by supporting participants’ trips to community destinations. Transport clients in personal and/or agency vehicles as assigned.
- Encourages clients to actively pursue their career aspirations.
- Assists clients throughout the day including arrival/departure routines, meal preparation/clean-up, eating lunch, and personal care (including basic hygiene needs). Provide for dignity by assuring the cleanliness of clients and their belongings.
- Assists with positioning and transferring of clients. Must be able to assist up to 50 lbs.
- Manages time efficiently to ensure completion of all necessary tasks and continuous active treatment for clients in service. Takes initiative to identify what needs to be done between scheduled tasks to ensure all time is used productively.
- Responds effectively to behavioral issues, proactively and reactively, to ensure safety and respect for all clients.
- Welcomes families, residential providers, volunteers, and other visitors to the service areas.
- Completes documentation as required, including service records in Accel, incident reports, communication logs, and goal and behavior data sheets.
- Effectively communicates progress and issues regarding clients to supervisor and with other team members as needed.
- Ensures a safe and clean environment for clients served by assisting housekeeping staff with necessary cleanup.
